After scouring through pages of possible piercings, I had finally made up my mind to get a snug on my left ear. I thought it was a cute piercing to have and it was not one that you see everyone walking around with. I prepared myself for the pain since it was involved poking through a thick piece of cartilage. But I had a high pain tolerance and I was ready for it. After all, it took me months to figure out what to get, I was not about to wait a few more months to get it.

So I go back to the place where I've had my last few piercings done which included my daith or forward helix (however you label it), both my lip rings (on the left and center). I have even recommended a couple of my friends to get piercings there, and one got a tattoo from the same place. Though the shop was on the small side, it was quite friendly. They were very professional there, equipment was sterile and good over all atmosphere. And I figured the same guy pierced everything else, so why not go back for more. Prices were also very reasonable, which is a plus for me since I'm still in school and only work part time. And they also repierce you for free if you are unhappy with the results, very professional indeed.

I get one of my friends to come with me and sit through the long train ride. Though I was unsuccessful in convincing him to pierce something, after all it's more fun when you have a friend to do it with you. We finally get to the shop, we have to wait a little since the piercer was currently poking at another customer. I have never developed the habit of making appointments for piercings so it is a bit of a drawback. But it also gave me time to look through the shops newest additions and to relax a little. It also made time for one of the tattoo artists there to try and convince me yet again to get a tattoo from there soon. I do plan on getting tattoos but I want to be definite about what I get. He even offered to order anestetics for me when I get tattooed because apparently the placement of my soon to be tattoo will be rather painful. Sounds like fun. But thats just how nice they are over there, and rather considerate too. My piercer has always put me at ease even though he had a thick accent which made it a challenge to understand everything he says completely.

When it's finally my turn, I paid the cost for the snug; twenty bucks. I sat in that familiar chair and let the guy take over. We must have sat there for five+ minutes waiting for me to be satisfied with the markings of the spot, have I mentioned that I'm highly anal about my piercings? Once I'm happy, I sit back and watched my piercer take out the sterile needle from its pouch. He then comes at me with the clamp, which is in my opinion the worst part of the piercing process. He had a bit of trouble trying to get a decent grasp on my ear. Once he got it, he pushed the needle through, rather slowly I might add. I had expected to hear the crunching noise people so frequently hear, but I heard nothing which was a little disappointing. He got the jewelry (a stainless steel curved barbell) through and handed me the mirror to see his handy work. I was quite please with the end result.

And as much as I love the piercing, it is unusually easy to knock into for some reason. The first night my boyfriend must have knocked into it at least three times, which irritated the hell out of it. It is next to impossible to sleep on it and I have consistently hit my ear since getting the snug. It pisses me off to no end that it has become to difficult to heal completely but I love it non the less. I plan on getting the snug on my other ear if the first one ever heals properly. My advice is to be extra careful during the healing period, and do not sleep over at some one else's house the first night you get a new piercing. I have done it twice already, now that will teach me. There is nothing quite like having another sleeping body knock into you during the middle of the night, and trying to muffle the sound of your curses as the pain courses through your body. H2Ocean and Dial anti-bacterial soap are a damn blessing for new piercings.
