Painful piercing

I had already had my tongue and my ears done twice and was looking to branch out. I wanted a unique piercing that I hadn't seen on a lot of people. I finally decided on a surface piercing. I have no idea what the official name of it is, but it is on the side of my face, parallel to my tragus but on the flap of skin there on the outside of it. I don't know if that made sense but that is where it is. Anyways so I called and made an appointment, with Sam the Tattoo guy, Goose Bay, Labrador and had a hard time trying to tell him where the actual piercing was, I think it is just the way I describe it. So anyways, next week I went down, picture in hand (from the internet). Sam took some time to determine how to place the clamps and which length and gauge barbell to use, in a town of 8,000 I think I am the first person he pierced like this. I was kind of nervous seeing as I was a guinea pig but I had come this far and was not turning back.

Sam, I must say is very professional. Everything was cleaned and sterilized in front of me and he was very friendly, I will definitely be going back to him for my next piercing. Back to the piercing, okay so after I was satisfied with the placement of the dots he started to put on the clamp. Holy shit, I have never been in so much pain. There is next to no skin there so he trying to clamp on to a flat surface and apparently I have tough skin, ha-ha who knew? I was pulling away from him and kind of yelling, poor guy really think I traumatized him. I was yelling, ow ow ow, and gripping my friend's hand. After about 5 minutes I was like omg is he done yet and Kathryn said, umm no jess, he's not even got the clamp on yet. Well I was about ready to give up then but instead of bitching out I sat through it. He finally, thank god, got the clamp on and he stopped so I could take a little breather, thanks Sam you rock, so anyways we went back at it and after the clamp it was apiece of cake. He needle slid through and all I felt was kind of a hot pinch for a couple of seconds and it was all over. Paid Sam $50 and went on my way.

As I was driving home I felt kind of woozy and my ear was starting to pound, like I had a migraine in my ear drum. I am kind of lazy and so I was diligent with the cleaning for the first week but that tapered off. I used a mild antibacterial astringent on it and made sure it was thoroughly rinsed clean. After a week all I did was clean it whenever there was crust or goop on my ear. At first taking a shower was a long process and I had to be careful putting up my hair and trying not to rip it out. Sleeping on it wasn't a problem as I only sleep on my right side and the piercing is on my led\ft, but occasionally I do turn over and now it is not a problem I have almost forgotten it is there. When I show some people they w\either love it or hate it, my family hates it but I have even inspired one of my friends to get it done she liked it so much. The only main problem I have had with it is self induced. When there was crust I would pick it off but I think I picked off too much and now you can see the lower end of the barbell, it is only a millimeter of exposed metal and I am sure I am the only one who notices it. I love my piercing though and am glad I got it. If you are thinking about getting this get it, maybe I am just a pussy for pain and maybe you might not even find it that bad. Who am I kidding its painful but like anything oh so worth it. I am a little apprehensive as to changing it though as I don't know if I am ready to change it by myself, I might just go get Sam, to help me the first time so that I don't rip it or take it out and not be able to get it back in. I have a 12g curved eyebrow barbell n it now, which is the barbell I got it pierced with. Now I am hooked on ear piercing
