The idea of an industrial had been in my head for some time, on and off. I wanted one a year or so ago...so I went in search of a long safety pin, found one, prepped up and poked it through my ear twice. As cool as it looked, it wasn't real practical...and mighty uncomfortable. I'm lucky it didn't infect itself. Either way, I had to remove it due to discomfort...and no permanent jewelry available...damn small towns and their lack of resources.

Since then...I've moved to the big smoke...and have had the idea a few more times. Down here, I've seen some fancy ones, some ugly ones, some normal ones that look good and some that I didn't even know were possible. None really stuck besides the regular ol' style...on a slight angle...up the top of ones ear.

It was only a few weeks back when I got my tragus pierced...that being my 1st ear cartilage piercing...and realized that cartilage piercings hurt! It wasn't as bad as stretching my septum or nostrils...or even lip for that matter, but it was worse than other initial piercings I'd had. Didn't really phase me though, it only hurts until the pain goes away (Todd's quote). And realistically, that time is nothing near the time I intend on having it for, so as I see it...its totally worth a little sting.

When I got my tragus pierced, a fella at the shop there invited me to a piercing/sex toy party in 2 weeks...so my girlfriend and I thought it would be a rad idea to show up. The time went quickly...and it was the night of it. We lead boring lives, so something like this is a nice change! It was at In Denial, in Glebe (Sydney, Aus.), where a piercer I'd previously met on a bus works. Also went and saw him regarding subdermals and he's a good fella! Got there...and brought to my attention...was that they were doing all piercings for $30.

So, I was sitting around, drinking beers...thinking how I could utilize that deal. I thought possibly my other tragus, but I need at least one side of my head to sleep on. I asked how big he could do my navel...but because I'm a twiggy bastard and don't have much of a navel to begin with...he wouldn't do it bigger than 10g and I couldn't be buggered with that. I also thought dermal punching...(NOT a spur of the moment decision...I had my mind set for yonks) but no one had tunnels (or punches) there, so that was a no-go. Then I remember I wanted an industrial. I asked one piercer there about it...but he didn't have any bars long enough. Bummer. So I gave up...and sulked. Not really, that's a lie. But I tried to think of something different.

The night went on, a big controversy went down...but everyone got back on track. Hooray. We went to watch some fella get a vertical bridge piercing, looked real good on him too! Then we were down there, and Lex says, "alright, you next...what do you want?" "duhhh...I don't know! Maybe an industrial, but Dave didn't have any long bars on him?". He scuttled over to the cupboard and grabs a bar and jokingly asked if it was long enough. Beauty.

So I plopped down on the chair...as Lex got the needle out and opened the packet the bar was in. he started playing with my ear...and marking it out really soon after I sat down. Im used to either doing it myself...or having to wait forever. Before I knew it, we were ready to poke the 1st hole. I breathed as he told me to, and he pushed it through. It hurt dammit! Haha, I wasn't expecting it.

A few seconds after it...I started to feel dizzy and that...so I said I needed to lay down coz I was gunna pass out (for some strange reason, I was sitting upright for the 1st piercing)...and not 2 seconds after I said it, sure as hell, I fell back in the chair. It couldn't have been too long, coz people were still standing around, but in that time I had some weird little dream...like I wasn't totally out of it. But then I woke up...said I was ok and to go along with it. Someone reall awesome had gotten me a cup of Solo...so I was happy about that! A random chick was standing next to me telling me to squeeze her hand...so I did.

I couldn't put my finger on it, I've had a few piercings (and much stretching)...my ear scalpelled and a few tattoos...and hadn't even felt faint once...but the 2 piercers there told me it was because I'd been drinking. Fair enough I thought, I had no alternate reason.

Breaking the poor girls hand gripping so hard...I leant back in the chair for the 2nd hole. It was as bad as the 1st one...but I was ok this time round. It felt like an eternity getting the ball on the end, but doesn't it always? Lex got the ball on, then told me to sit up. So I did...and checked it out in the mirror. I was stoked! It looked REAL good. I thought my ears were too Gumby for one, but I guess he pulled the side up a little bit to do it...coz it sat perfectly.

So I stood up, handed over the $30...and went back to the small shindig upstairs to show off. Everyone split soon after that, it was running overtime already. Got home...all happy and stuff, but then soon realized how much of a you-know-what it was to sleep! I figured it was all natural...and still do because it's getting a little better now (4 days after)...but for the healing time...its ultra uncomfy and hurtful to hit.

But I'm still over the moon with in. Definitely don't wanna remove it anytime soon...as you do with some new piercings. So yes, it hurts...but yes it's very cool. And getting it done properly...or at least putting an actual bar in it...beats the poops out of a long safety pin! Haha.

Take care...and stay modded.

Steve
