I had my first piercing done at the age of thirteen and my second at fifteen, and even though I still like both I wish I would have thought about it a little bit more and not rushed into it so quickly. Ever since I have wanted another piercing. I thought about getting my nose and/or my lip done for a while but I though that would not be the best idea with work and all. Then, about six years ago, I saw someone at my high school with a tragus piercing and I it was love at first sight. Especially after one of my friends got it done shortly after I knew that the tragus would be my next addition. For some reason though I kept putting it off. I just wanted to make sure that I really wanted it for, found a good place to get pierced at and it also slipped my mind at times because there was so much other stuff going on in my life. For the past couple of months though the idea had came back up and I decided I was going to do it before this year was coming to an end. I did some research on BMEzine as well as asking friends for suggestions and advice.
At A Glance Author dee Contact dee@bme.anon When A week ago Artist Tim Studio Zebra Location Berkeley, CA Well, fast forward to Christmas day. The piercing subject came up and we were discussing different ones and so forth. In addition, my in-laws live close to Berkeley and I decided that the time had finally come and that I would drive to Berkeley the next day when the store would open back up. I ended up picking Zebra's because friends of mine had gotten multiple piercings there and they always gave positive feedback. One of my friends had really recommended Tim and she was only letting him pierce her. I called the next morning to see who was the piercer that day and to ask if I needed an appointment. They said I could just walk in because it was not busy at all and that Tim was working. So, my husband and I drove to Berkeley and I have to say that I was a nervous wreck. When we arrived a very friendly girl helped me at the counter. I filled out the paper work, got cleaning stuff, and then went and paid. (It cost about $50 including cleaning solution and sea salt.) I also picked out a piercing. I wanted a CBR but they only bars. (I actually heard it was better to have a bar at the beginning but do not ask me why.) It was actually very busy (so much for being able to walk right in) at Zebra's and we had to wait for about forty-five minutes until it was my turn and my number was called. We decided to take a walk and check back in about half an hour. When it was finally my turn we walked into the piercing room. Tim was standing in the corner and I have to say that he was not very friendly. He did not say "hi" nor introduced himself. He just told me to sit down. Then he put on gloves and got everything ready. He asked which side I wanted pierced and marked my tragus but unfortunately did not show the marking to me. I should have said something thinking back now but I was somewhat nervous and just wanted to get it over with. The piercing process went buy rather quickly. It did not really hurt or pop. It just felt like someone pinched my ear really hard. It did not bleed either which made me very happy because I cannot see blood. After I was done we said goodbye, I gave him a tip and we were on our way back home.
It has been a week now and I have had no problems with it what so ever. It was kind of sensitive the first couple of days but after that it has been fine and I'm even able to sleep on it. I clean it with the solution about three times a day and do a salt soak at night. I twist and move it about four times a day as well. The cleaning and turning is pretty easy especially because the bar is a (little) extra long. The healing process takes about two to three months and I cannot wait to get a small ring to put in my ear
All in all, I am very happy with it. Tim did a great job and the whole process was very clean and sterile. It was the perfect Christmas present to myself and I am thinking already what I could get done next.
