Before I even had an idea as to what an industrial bar was or even seen anyone with a single earring or bar put through multiple holes, I was fascinated with the idea of doing it. Well even just the whole idea of piercing in general I guess. I've had multiple over the years but some have been taken out after losing there fun or just got too annoying dealing with everyday activities to keep, but I'd personally have to say my naval project was one of my favorites, that's a different story though isn't it?

Before I even start to explain the procedure of my piercing, I'll tell you about how I even went about getting the actual bar in the first place. Most people will go buy a wrongly sized one from some half assed side shop or just stick a too small tongue ring through there ear and pretend it's the right thing. Both of these ideals are wrong. The best thing to do would be to measure the width of your ear from hole to hole, then go to a shop to look for with correct measurements, or find one on Ebay (I got mine for around five dollars which was a wonderful price compared to the twenty plus that I've paid for some others).

Now that I've gotten that sizing bit said, I can get on to the actual piercing part. I've had different times that made me decide get a few different holes in me at once. That's including my last one which was a few ear mods including my industrial bar that im here to explain for you. id had a few different barbells in my cartilage already before I even decided to do this that I had kept in since I was about 12 or 13, so choosing the one (hole) I wanted one of the bars ends to go through was probably the most complicating part of the whole thing. (Keep in mind I did this all myself) Another thing that added to the complication was that I knew my mother in particular would be pissed about this whole happening because A. she isn't into the whole body mod scene and B. (like most parents) who wants there kid shoving a 12g needle through there own ear? seriously guys I cant think of many.

Once again that is all a little besides the point. at first I bought a piercing gun.... brilliant idea eh? no not really for doing this sort of things. I had used the piercer to do all the other holes in my ears already, so all I really had to do was get some lidocaine, numb my chosen hole, and shove the actual bar through one. I chose the 2nd hole from the top of the line of my ear which at that time was already having multiple earing in it already. I didn't actually like the whole idea of screwing the whole bar in at first, so I just took a different 12g loop and pushed that through first. Since I couldn't screw it in, I had to jam it through, so there was a bit of soreness, but not much at all really. then came the next step, actually piercing the next hole. I was scared at first. don't even ask why, usually I didn't mind the idea of a pointy object going into or through my body, but I was the one doing it.

Before I even started, I got out all my little medical tools. Which for me is including my dignity, rubbing alcohol, alcohol prep pads, a set of foerster clamps, some hydrogen peroxide, a 12 gauge needle, my hands and my leather belt to bite while I went through with doing the needle meets ear part of this all (which actually ended up as the most rewarding part besides the glitter of the metal every time I look at it). Then I took one last look at my ear after I had washed my hands with some anti bacterial soap. For me this wasn't only another earring that I had decided to get on a spur of the moment boredom trip, I had just broken up with a guy who had made me specifically promise to him that I would not get this done about a week or a little bit before hand, so this was me letting myself let go of him, his restricting personality, and saying "fuck it" to what we had once had, or lacked in a way. It was me taking a big step into my own personal happiness through modification (not mutilation) of myself and it was all for myself. (along with it leaving a constant reminder). Now as I was saying, I looked into the mirror, smiled (and thought about getting a Monroe lip piercing for an instant) and pulled my long jet black hair up into a pony tail, then pinned up the remaining hair around my ears up so they wouldn't get in the way at all and took one last look. Then I marked the perfect spot at the perfect angle, put the clamp on, picked up the needle and pushed. It bled for a bit, but not horribly at all. Then I put the full bar through both holes and admired my work. It looks perfect and I don't regret at all not getting it done by a professional. For me it was a lot more meaningful to do it myself. I wouldn't recommend others doing it this way though so if you read this and decide you want an industrial, go to a professional. That's my story, and I hope someone reads this and is inspired even the smallest bit to modify themselves, for themselves and not to listen when people say they don't think you should go with what you like because it isn't in there own personal interest. It's your body, isn't it?
