This whole experience was one of the spontaneous kind.
I was hanging out with my cousin a few nights ago (January 04, 2006). Our main purpose of the night was strictly to go to our Grandmothers house and just have a nice meal with her. My dad was there also with his wife. The night went off without a hitch! Suddenly my Grandma remembered that she hadn't given me my Christmas present yet because I live out in Grand Rapids. So she heads off to her room and comes back with a nice $50 bill for me. I thought that was a pretty good gift. You can never go wrong with money. But then my dad decided that since he doesn't see me often either he slapped $100 into my hot little hand.
"Oh man," I thought when I had this massive amount of money in my hand, "what can I possibly spend this on?" Ha Ha. Shows them for giving me money, eh?
Well 6:30 rolls around and me and my cousin head out the door to go home. On our way I decide to stop off at a place in Ann Arbor called "SC Tattoo". I would NEVER suggest this shop to anyone seeing as it's not a very clean shop. But they have massive amounts of jewelry. So we go in, and absolutely NO ONE comes over to help us pick something out. So i just browsed what they had and looked at prices. I was trying to find some 8g CBR's for my outer labia piercings and they were trying to charge $30 a ring! Absolutely not. So we left there and got into my car. In my car I go "hmm... I wonder if I should just call Josh." Josh is my piercer over at State of Mind in Monroe. He's an awesomely nice guy to be around. So we call him up and find out that he's open. So my cousin goes "you know, i think i want to get my tongue pierced."

Well we do the hour drive it takes to get down there and he gets me set up with some jewelry that i was looking to buy and takes us right back into his piercing room. Robyn is sitting there getting prepared to get her tongue pierced and i'm dancing around next to her because I was getting that endorphin rush that you get when you get pierced, even though I wasn't the one getting pierced! Well she gets her tongue done and everything goes off without a hitch. But the entire time I was staring at her inner conch and asked Josh if he had all the necessary items to dermal punch my ear. Of course, he did. So now I was getting even more nervous about getting something done.

Well he gets done with giving her her aftercare and tells me to lie down on the table. I do and Robyn grabs my hands while he's getting everything cleaned up and ready to go. This is the part where my heart starts pounding because I've never had anything dermal punched IN MY LIFE. So Robyn squeezes my hand a little tighter when he's about to start.

He puts the dermal punch up to my ear and tells me to take a few deep breaths. As soon as I take ONE deep breath he starts pushing the dermal punch through my conch. I don't remember it hurting at all. It was just the worst crunching sound I've ever heard in my life. I remember feeling a ton of pressure also, but still no pain. He gets it through finally after what felt like ages and all of a sudden I can't hear anything. I had my head turned to the side, obviously, and so my left ear was being covered by my hair and being pushed onto a table, the right ear which was just punched was now full of blood. It was similar to being in a bath with your head under water.

I couldn't hear anything they were saying to me really, just slight muffled talking. I didn't even know he had put the jewelry in my ear, but he was still fiddling around with something. I managed to lift my head a tiny bit to hear him saying he was trying to get the O ring onto my plug. It must've been a tight O ring because he was working on it for a good two minutes. It's finally on and he starts cleaning up the outer part of my ear to get the blood off and then hands me a massive amount of q-tips to clean the inside of my ear out. He told me there was no way he was going to "burst my eardrum by trying to clean it out". Ha Ha.

So i get up to look at it and I LOVE it, but my hearing is still muffled in the ear that just got the punch. I can tell there's tons of blood in my ear though. So i start cleaning it out and i'm making absolutely NO progress in making my hearing normal. But a few more tries of digging it out with q-tips and a HUMONGOUS blood clot came out of my ear canal. Not to be disgusting or anything, but the blood clot was reminiscent of something you'd see on your period. Not pleasant at all haha.

Well after I was all taken care of, we took off for home. But once we were into the car and I was smoking a cigarette I noticed that it was starting to sting a little. It wasn't comfortable AT ALL. IT was feeling really tender and stingy for about 10 minutes. But then all of a sudden it stopped. No more pain, no more bleeding . That was great.

I got home, cleaned it up a little more and headed off to bed. I woke up the next morning with a nice amount of blood on my face and ear, but that was easily taken care of. It STILL didn't hurt. It's amazing to me that I have this giant wound in my head and it doesn't even sting at all. Either way, I am now proud that I went through with it and got something new done to myself. It was an entirely different procedure than I'd ever had before. And wasn't nearly as unpleasant as I'd have imagined it would be.

I'm very happy about it and would suggest Josh Anderson any day. He's never done me wrong.
