Last night my best friend Jaz came home from college after a hectic week of finals. After another semester of school finally over, I could tell she was happy to be home for Christmas. A lot of bullshit went on this time around for her, and nothing made me happier than being able to see her after a length of time that was definitely too long.

Jaz headed home on a Friday right after she got off work. Originally we thought we wouldn't be able to hook up that night because I work insane hours and wouldn't have gotten home by the time she was to carry out he plans. However, luck was on my side and instead of getting off work at the usual time I was home before 1:00pm.

I got on the computer, and luck was even more on my side when I saw that Jaz was signed on from work. I quickly messaged her and told her that I would be able to go to the show she wanted to attend. We talked for a bit more and out of nowhere I brought up the idea of getting something pierced together after the show. She quickly agreed and we proceeded to discuss what part of our bodies we would like to decorate. I've been wanting to get the center of my lip redone for awhile now, but the plan was to get the same part done on both of us. After a bit of deliberation we decided we should get our tragus done. Who was I to argue? Furthermore, we decided that she would get her left one done, and I, my right. Before the decision was final she made me promise that I'd hold her hand during the piercing, since we both had heard the tragus is a rather painful piercing. I agreed without hesitation as it was a rather easy promise to keep.

We said our goodbyes, and I signed off to go get ready for our evening. A few hours later we were on our way to the show. A show I did not enjoy aside from making out with this girl I'm really into. But that's a whole 'nother story.

After the show we headed over to Skin Quake. Jaz and I could hardly contain our excitement as it was the highlight of our night (aside from getting to see each other. Awww!) We spoke to the piercer (some cute chick with a huge attitude problem), and told her what we wanted. We filled out the necessary paperwork and were led back into the coolest both I've ever seen. It had a spiraled stone floor, plants with gothic style pots, and even a little fountain/koi pond in the corner. It was a very relaxed environment, and on we went.

To ease some of the nervousness that I knew was going through Jaz's head I started telling the piercer about how our other friend Jodi who was with us wanted to get her clit pierced. She didn't really but I always enjoy trying to convince her of otherwise. After a defiant "No!" from Jodi, and a strange look shot at both of us from the piercer it was time to get this show on the road.

Jaz went first because she's a baby and didn't want to have a chance to chicken out after seeing me do it. She got herself situated on the table and stuck her hand out to me. I quickly grabbed it and offered a smile as reassurance. In no more than a few seconds she had a needle sticking through that little nub nobody really thinks about. Everything was fine and she took it like a champ. There only complication was that the piercer had accidentally dropped the ball in Jaz's ear. Although I'm sure it was truly accidental, that still angered me a little bit. Not that I thought she had done anything unprofessional, I just wanted the whole thing to be over with for Jaz. I wanted my turn!

I got my wish. In a few more minutes it was my turn to get poked. Hopping up on the table with a grin, I was ready for my turn. Before heading to the shop Jaz and I had examined each others tragus just to see what each of us might have in store for ourselves. Hers was quite squishy while mine was rock hard. This presented a bit of anxiety in me. Not fear, just anxiousness to see how that would affect my experience. As it turned out I was anxious with good reason. As the needle was being pushed in it stopped half way. The piercer had to actually regain her grasp on the needle and shove it through for a second time. In spite of this it did not hurt at all. When I say not at al I don't mean that slight pinch you feel when getting your lip done, or even the bee sting sensation in your cartilage. I mean I didn't even feel the damn thing! I didn't even so much as hear that "crunch" that is so prominently described on BME.

Jaz and I excitedly admired the other's ear, and hopped, skipped, and jumped (not really) out the front counter. We paid the $15 and some change and left to go pick up another friend because the night was still young.

I'm not the biggest fan of piercings so whenever I get one they are most definitely a treat. Tattoos are more of my thing, but altogether I have my lobes, tongue, and now tragus. In the past I have also had my lip (as previously stated in this story) , and my nipples which I unfortunately had to remove before they were fully healed due to a whole being arrested and going to jail thing. But in retrospect my tragus was most definitely the easiest and most painless piercing I've ever gotten. I don't regret getting it, and I highly recommend anyone get it that's considering another addition to their "temples".
