I am a big fan of industrials. I have been since the first time I ever saw one because it isn't your typical piercing. I've had piercings since I was 18 when I got my lobes pierced three times (sad to say, I got them pierced with a gun). Following that, I got the top cartilage of both my ears pierced (again by a gun, bad mistake). When I got the top of my ears pierced, I came to find out I had an allergic reaction to sterling silver. My ears started to reject the piercings and were constantly over-sensitive. Not long after I got them, I had to remove them.

Due to this I felt discouraged to get any more piercings because I thought my ears would reject any kind of piercing. Two years past and now I was in college. I started to notice that quite a few people in college have some sort of body mod (which was uncommon for me because the high school I went to did not allow piercings other than your ears). This got me thinking of doing a new piercing, but I wasn't sure what yet.

Then I saw a girl walking to class that had an industrial piercing. Immediately I knew what I was getting. I talked to one of my friends and he told me about this shop by his house called Evolution, Inc Body Piercing. I decided to look them up in the phone book and give them a call. Needless to say, they were very informative in answering my questions. I told them I had my ears pierced before but my ears rejected the piercings. He asked me where I had my ears pierced to which I replied that I had them done at Piercing Pagoda (ugh!). He told me there was the problem because the metal in their jewelry is not high-grade metal and that the studio he worked at used surgical steel which has very low rates of rejection.

Due his help in explaining everything to me in depth, I knew I wanted to go to that studio. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone, from the second you walk in it feels like a comfortable place. It was amazing the way it was put together, a pond in the corner with Koi fish in it, a fish tank built into the wall with turtles, and all the jewelry cases were custom built giving them a unique representation.

I then met Noah Babcock, whom I had talked to on the phone, he was the head piercer at Evolution and was very friendly. He then showed me some pictures of industrials he had done to give me an idea of what I would like. Needless to say his work was amazing, he had so many custom bent industrials, each one different (there was even one in the shape of a rabbit's head!).

I decided since this was my first one that I get a standard industrial. Once this was decided they had me fill out some papers and present ID. He then took me to one of the rooms and started to prep all the equipment he would be using. He showed me each individual tool and jewelry in their sterilization pouches to assure me that everything was sterilized. This made me feel more comfortable and more reassured that this was a quality studio.

He then started to measure my ear and made his markings to ensure that the piercing would fit right. He then asked me if I was ready, then told me to take a deep breath while he pushed the first needle through. I was expecting pain but was relieved to find out that it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. He asked me if I was doing alright and then prepared the second needle. Another deep breath and another needle through my ear. I started to realize that I was almost finished and was pretty ecstatic. He inserted the barbell on screwed on the ends without me really feeling any of it. He cleaned up all the blood and made sure it stopped bleeding. In this whole procedure he had changed his gloves at least five times which made me feel comfortable that everything was clean.

He finally told me that it was done and to check it out into the mirror. I immediately loved the way it looked. He then went over all the cleaning procedures I needed to do and explained how to properly take care of it. The studio even provided me with sea salt and medical antibacterial soap for cleaning my ear. I finished paying for my piercing and thanked Noah for the work. I've had my industrial for six months and thoroughly enjoy it (I even got two more industrials after that, but that's another story for later).

If anyone lives in the Albuquerque or Santa Fe area, I would highly recommend Evolution, Inc Body Piercing to anyone. It's located in Albuquerque on Central near Nob Hill.
