Ok so first off just to give a little background... I've been a big fan of tattoos and piercings since I was about eleven. I don't care for them when they seem to cover all of someone's body but hey if that's your style... it's just not mine. But anyways, my first piercings were just your standard lobe with a gun at twelve. Since then, I've been hooked. My mom and I are even planning a trip up to Miami in the near future to check out Miami Ink (you know, the one on TLC), although seeing as Im underage, I'll be polite and not beg them to tattoo me; instead I will just flirt shamelessly with all the incredibly good looking artists there.

So now on to my tragus. I had gone to get my bellybutton bone on New Year's Day when I was thirteen. My dad didn't approve of ANY piercings at ALL but he had died two months before this so my mother had agreed due to the fact that I had pierced it myself with a safety pin (yes I have pierced my own belly button, nipples, and tongue; I do not advise this unless you know what you are doing!).

Anyways onto my story. We walked in to the studio (which was South Paw in San Antonio), and we were actually a good half-hour early, so we gave everybody time to get there equipment and whatnot set up. We're actually good friends with all of the owners, so we went and got them (and us) coffee. And as I was waiting for my piercer to get ready, I was skimming through a magazine with my friend Kim (it was me, my mother, my friends Kim, Josh and Jared who are all MUCH older than me, and therefore I really wasn't all that excited about them being there). I turned to a page that had a model showing off something about her incredibly shiny hair; for the record mine looked much better. But as she was turned at an angle, I noticed a very small ring in her tragus. I had never seen this piercing before, but I was immediately sold. I showed it to my mom, who considered it a bit extreme. But my mom is very easily convinced and six months later, we went to a parlor closer to where we lived (Pasadena).

We didn't know anything at all about the studios in Pasadena, as we only went to the one in San Antonio (because we were looking for property up there to move). But all the same I looked in the phonebook and just randomly picked one. We headed to Skin Deep, where I watched a seventh grade boy getting his eyebrow pierced. From what I observed the piercer sterilized everything (multiple times) and seemed to know what he was doing. So I asked him (Todd that is) if he would do a tragus. He said he would for $30. Which I thought was a bargain. I only got the left one done at the time, just to see how well it healed; I was either going to have to take it out or proceed to get my right one done.

So as he cleaned off the bench (not quite sure why, but hey at least I knew he sterilized) and got all his other death tools sterilized, another guy went and showed me jewelry. I just picked a 16 gauge CBR. Then Todd marked the spot and showed me a mirror. I said that spot would work.He laid me down and told me to turn my head. He then proceeded to clamp my left tragus. I must say that was fairly uncomfortable. Not painful, just uncomfortable. Definitely the worst part of the whole experience. Then came the needle- I was shocked at the fact that it did not hurt a bit! (although i admit i have an extremely hight pain tolerance) Getting the needle through my tragus took about three seconds, and then before I knew it the jewelry was in and IT LOOKED INCREDIBLE!!

It healed fairly well and a month later I went and had the right one done. The right had to be repierced, and therefore I had a little bit of trouble with it healing because a bump kept seeming to come up in the back of the piercing. However, over time it stopped and now they look awesome. I was afraid that this was a keloid but apparently not. I cleaned them in the shower with Dial soap and used Band-Aid Hurt Free Wash whenever they feel a bit sore. I also go and have Todd or Lee change the piercing out when I want something new because they screw the balls on too tight and I cant get them out myself.

I hope this has proved informational to whoever reads it and it convinces you to get it done, because it really is quite painless! And the result is definitely worth it. Happy piercing y'all!
