I seem to have a strange disorder where I get bored and decide to get piercings, it's happened twice this week and I've also had a tattoo (which to be fair took a lot more consideration than my piercings!) My tragus piercing was decided on one day while I was at college, I was quite happily in English when I decided to get it done. I loved the way it looked on others with a little hoop through it, I thought it was lovely and now it's one of my best piercings! Luckily break was straight after that lesson, and I don't like to hang about, I'm the sort of person where once I get something into my head, I do it there and then. So me and my friend Matt (who I dragged with me) walked the 5 minutes to Hair and Body Additions, which I trust quite well as they did my bellybutton at the tender age of 11.

By the time I got there I was quite nervous, the idea of having a needle shoved through that bit of my ear made me feel quite uneasy. I'd had both sides done previously, but both were done with a gun, so I had no idea what I was in for. I asked a few questions, one of which was 'Do you numb it?' They don't! This scared me quite a bit because everyone else I knew with it done had had it numbed before, but I shrugged it off because, to be fair they're the piercers and know a lot more about it than I do. (I had my tongue pierced 3 days after at a different shop, and they were shocked that it hadn't been numbed.) I then waited for the woman that was going to pierce it to come out from the back of the shop, I was waiting for about 10 minutes talking to another girl that worked there, who was very friendly and made me feel very at ease.

When the piercer came out she however did not help my nerves, she was extremely rude to my friend and stormed her way into the piercing room. So I walked very nervously into the back room with the woman that was going to pierce it. Everything looked very clean and she showed me the new needle in its packet. She then asked me to lie down on the bed in the piercing room and turn my head as far to the left as I could (I was having the right side pierced) She drew a little dot on it where the needle would go and checked if that was suitable for me, it had to be slightly further forwards so it wouldn't go through previous scar tissue. That's when I started to get really nervous, I felt her put the needle up to my ear and she told me to take a deep breath. then *Stab* the needle went through my ear! It took a good minute or so to get the needle through, I'm guessing that's because it's cartilage. Then she told me to take another deep breath and she yanked the hoop into place, that bit hurt the most! A lot more than the needle. I have never, ever had a piercing that hurt as much as that did! I didn't expect that much pain because of the previous Tragus piercings I'd had with a gun.

Luckily I didn't hear the 'pop' that some people describe, but I'd of rather heard that than had the pain. The whole time I was biting the hell out of the shoulder of my jacket, practically crying because it hurt so much, and I usually have quite a high pain tolerance! Then came the hard part, she put the hoop through, but couldn't get the ball on, so she was yanking my poor little ear about all over the place (which by the way was bleeding so much that it covered about 3 cotton wool buds) The bleeding finally subsided but for the whole day my ear ached and it hurt to even move my mouth. I had to sneak my way into my lesson making up an excuse that 'My bus was late' whilst trying to hide my bleeding ear and face away from my teacher!

It's now been 5 days since my piercing and It's still a little bit tender, I can't sleep on that side of my head, and the few nights that I did I woke up with dried blood in my ear, very attractive. However, I do love my little Tragus piercing now and strongly recommend it to anyone that wants it done, I think if you really want something then pain shouldn't be an issue because It's over very quickly and i'm sure most other places will numb it, which would help A lot!
