Well, I have written on here several times for my numerous piercings, but this one is by far my favorite. Since I was in grade nine I've wanted my conch piercing. I always heard horror stories about how painful it is, and how you hear a crunch or pop when the needle goes through. So, I was not in any rush to get this done. I have my rook pierced and that barely hurt at all, so I figured it was time for me to step up to the plate and get my conch pierced.
At A Glance Author livia Contact livia@bme.anon When It just happened For several days straight I read numerous experiences on conch piercings and looked at a million pictures. This was a piercing I wanted really badly. However, almost everyone who has their conch pierced said it was so painful and said they heard a crunch. Finally, after five days of researching I said I was going to do it. I'm usually only a little bit nervous to have piercings done, but for this one I felt like I was going to throw up I was so incredibly scared.
I decided I was going to go by myself. When friends come with me, they're usually more nervous at the sight of the needle than I am, and try to talk me out of it. So, I called a cab, and went to my trusted piercer. I kept talking and stalling because I was too afraid. He had everything set up and I decided to back out. Just as I was leaving, he said, "look you want this done, it doesn't hurt that badly get back in here and lets do this!"
Well, that was enough for me, I was going to do it. I almost cried I was so scared, but I really wanted it done. So, he cleaned everything, marked my ear, made sure I was okay with the placement, and told me everything that I was doing. At this point I was sitting in a chair, but I was afraid I was going to pass out, so he had me lie down. Just as he was about to put the needle to my ear, I screamed and pulled away. He was very patient and gave me a teddy bear to hold onto. I felt so stupid. I gave it a second try. He told me to take a deep breath and he pushed the needle through. So, let me clarify some things. I'm sure everybody feels something different and hears different things. For me, I felt very little pain and I didn't hear a pop or crunch. So, you're thinking how can she say it doesn't hurt. It really didn't though. Obviously there was some pain associated with it, but they push the needle through so quickly before you have time to say OW it's all over with.
Anyway, after he pushed the needle in, I started to cry...NOT FROM PAIN! I was crying because I had been so nervous and my nerves were just shot. I asked him to wait a couple of seconds before putting the jewelery in. He was very patient and gave me a moment to collect myself. Finally he put the CBR I had chosen in and closed it up. It sits just above the groove in my ear. It looks so cool. The nice thing about this piercing is it is really unique. The piercings that used to be unique are becoming more mainstream, but this one isn't yet. I really love it.
I just got it done last night, and I still am experiencing no real pain. I read a lot of people's stories saying they had jaw aches and it hurt really badly after, but I feel no pain. OH before I forget I should also say that it barely bled when it was pierced either. Anyway, I couldn't sleep on it last night, but that was to be expected.
It's so funny, I went home and showed my Mom, and she liked it so much, she wanted it done. So, back we went to the piercing shop. The piercer laughed at us. My Mom said obviously there was some pain, but like me she said that it happens so quickly that before you can really respond to it, its all over with. We both love it.
I'm really not too sure about aftercare however. The place I got my rook pierced at said to do sea salt soaks for ten minutes, twice a day. Then the place I just got my conch pierced at, said that sea salt doesn't make a difference unless you're going to do it for like half and hour, and they just gave me a bottle of an ear cleanser. So I'm really not sure anyway. Maybe I'll compromise and do one sea salt soak and clean it with the other stuff.
So, if you want to get this done, don't chicken out because of what other people say. Everybody is different. Personally, I thought it was a quick and pretty painless experience. Remember the needle goes through so quickly any pain you would feel is over before you can say OW. So, relax and if you want it done, go for it!!
