I actually walked into the basement (not so smart) expecting to get my Daith pierced. Unfortunately, he was a really crappy piercer and had no idea that it could be pierced. He did tell me that it could not be pierced anyways. Which is not true but who cares, he didn't know a whole lot about piercings.

So he suggested my Snug. He didn't know the name of it... Neither did I actually. I didn't know for months and months afterwards.

So I agreed to this because I wanted a piercing and if I couldn't get one then I didn't see a big reason to fret over it. This was going to be my first ear piercing, so I was kind of excited to get it done. So he had me sit in this computer chair. He cleaned my ear and then got ready. He pierced my right ear first. I was not expecting the pain to be so bad. It hurt probably the most out of all the piercings I have had, to date. That part wasn't the worst of it. He cleaned it with alcohol! I used to think that was the proper way to do things. I was so dumb about piercings, to say the least. Then he proceeded to pierce my left ear. At this point, my friends decided to start making me really worried. Saying the left side always hurts more and this one is going to kill. Well, to me, I don't know if it hurt anymore or less. I think it was pretty similar. He used the same aftercare for that ear as well. It hurt so much. Never let anybody clean your piercing with rubbing alcohol. He of course pierced them with rings. Since he knew absolutely nothing about these piercings and how the cartilage sits.

Once we left his house, my ears throbbed so badly. I could barely stand the pain. Then after that, we just went to my friend's house. I wanted to see how they looked. There was SO much blood. It was horrible and looked disgusting. It kind of disgusted me out, the way it looked all clotted and nasty. Needless to say, I wasn't convinced I just loved the piercing. I took some painkillers and just hoped for the best. They helped a bit I think. I don't really remember.

Since this was my first ear piercing, I wasn't very good with the daily tasks of life for a long long time. I bumped them constantly. On phones, pulling my hair back, hugging people... It was horrible. It brought me close to tears almost every time. I was not gentle with them for a long time.

After a few months, I think it was around two or three I started to develop bumps on all of the holes. This left me very unhappy with the piercings in general. I was very worried that they were keloids because I saw some information about them and it wasn't that far off. I of course, had nowhere to go to ask a piercer. I no longer went to the person who pierced in his basement (thankfully!). I had to wait till I went to the city. So I went to go see Matt at Creations, and he took a look at my poor ears. He told me that I shouldn't be surprised if I had to take them out. That really did depress me. I didn't get him to take them out, even though they looked and felt like sheer hell. He told me to do better after care, the sea salt soak and never to use alcohol on a piercing because it is far too harsh.

There was many times that if I had the proper tools I would have taken them out. I guess I would count my blessings because I did not have the proper tools. Then one day, I had a friends ring openers and ring closes and I decided since I read about barbells healing better I would change it to see how that worked out. The barbell wasn't straight but had a smallish curve. I changed it a while ago, at least seven months. So now I have the comparison of both. My ear seems to like the ring better. I have no bumps on my left ear and I have two on my right. So maybe it has to do with the barbell I guess I won't really know for sure.

So it's been about two years, since I have had them done. I eventually got the hang of not knocking it around and although I still do have some bumps it has settled down a lot. All in all I think for me, the piercing is totally worth it. It isn't perfect; it flares up time to time but once that happens you just baby it and its okay.

Words of advice for anybody who is thinking about this piercing- Be really careful with it, it is a very fragile piercing. Also never get it done near winter time. I would say get it in spring so it has plenty of time to survive the winter with a hat. This piercing takes a lot of time and patience so be sure you are ready for it! Happy piercing!
