Last night I was talking to my Mum about piercings, since my sister had just gotten the top of her ear pierced, and Mum didn't much like it, and hadn't liked mine when I had it done either. She said the reason for this was because it was too chunky, to which I replied "you would hate an industrial then!" After I explained what it was, she agreed that she would hate it, and said she was glad I didn't want it (I had heard it was really painful) because she wouldn't let me.

I went to work that night fuming, and the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to get it done. I talked to my friends at work about it, and even though they hate most of the piercings I want and love, they all like this particular one. I had always thought they looked great, but I'm a wuss, so I didn't want the pain. (My friends don't understand that since I want around 30 piercings all up, most of which are surface and will hurt more, but for some reason those piercings seem almost above the pain, like it wont matter. Guess I'm just weird!)
So today I went into the city to talk to Justin, who owns a piercing studio that my friends have been to and liked, and other friend works at. I asked him how much it would cost, and if he could place it so it wouldn't rub against my glasses, and when that was sorted I asked if he would be open on Sunday. (Today is Thursday.) I wanted to get it done on Sunday because I work Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights, so Sunday would give it the longest rest possible before I had to cover it with my hair for work.
Unfortunately, Justin said he was going away this weekend, and wouldn't be back until Tuesday, so I could wait until then, or he could do it in half an hour. I was a little shocked, not to mention panicked as I thought I would have longer to psych myself up, but I chose today anyhow, and went off to get something to eat while he set everything up.
I got in there, and he drew the dots on my ears for placement, then explained to me how the bar would be extra long because this piercing tends to have quite a lot of liquid discharge as it heals, so it had to be allowed to release and not build up. This meant I needed a really big bar, since I have REALLY big ears!
I also asked him about hair covering the piercing, because I work on checkouts at a supermarket, and they are very picky about piercings, so I will have to cover it with my hair. Thankfully I just had my hair cut yesterday, so it is now in a style that easily covers my ears and doesn't get in the way of my face too much. Justin said that so long as the hair is clean and doesn't have any product in it, it should be fine, however I would have to be careful not to get it tangled in the piercing and then pull on it.
I lay back on the piercing bench, he stabbed me, starting from the top hole, put in the jewellery, and it was done! It hurt more that when I had the top of my ear piercing years ago, because it was piercing through a thicker place this time, but still not as bad as I expected. Hurt like a bitch, but not to the point of passing out! Justin got me to take my glasses off and then put them back on, to make sure it was all okay, and then we chatted for a while about these gorgeous t-shirts he sells that have pictures of little kids and babies on them with gems and rings stuck on and through the shirts as piercings on the kids. Very cute. I think he was just trying to distract me from the ear so I wouldn't pass out, because I told him on the way in that I was trying really hard not to run away!
Cost me $80 all up (that's Australian dollars) throbbed when I walked too quickly for about half an hour, and now I love it! Justin told me to clean it twice each day with Betadine liquid (so it looks brown now, but oh well, that'll go when it's healed) and to come back in a month to change to a shorter bar.
Next on my wish list: 3 navel piercings, (I already had one, but it came out years ago) my tongue, inner labia, and side corsets! Hopefully I will get those by Christmas 2006, and I will of course write and post pictures on here of them all!
