For the past week or so I've had the urge to get yet another piercing. I am definately no "virgin" when it comes to piercing. I had my lobes done at age 2 with my mom at the mall, my second holes done at age 12 in grade 7 with my cousin, my third done at age 17 and my fourth done at 18...all with guns I'm ashamed to say. I had my navel pierced at 18 and my nostril about a month ago at 19. My mom hates them, my dad doesn't care. So today, while my mom was out I went to Minds Eye with a friend in search of a rook piercing. Unfortunately they we're closed, so, extremely disappointed we headed to the mall.

Studio Nail World Location Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada While there I saw the place my friend and I got our navels done, Nail World. Now they do specialize in nails obviously, but they also do piercings. I was a little hesitant of going there, they did a great job on my navel about a year back, but some new girl ended up doing my nose with the gun (NEVER, NEVER, NEVER do this...I got extremely lucky), however I wasn't aware how dangerous they were and knew other's that had it done like that so I let her, however I've been very lucky with no problems.
But anyway, I decided to go back this one last time and see if they would redeem themselves. Luckly the girl that did my nose wasn't there, but the girl that was there told me they did rook piercings but they turned out to be almost $20 more than the other place. Well I didn't have that kind of money to spend so I asked if they could do a double helix instead. I was told they could if I had them do it with the gun, and after my nose experience I wasn't taking any chances, I was lucky once...I didn't want to think about doing it again. So I asked if they would do it with the needle instead. I was told they would but I could only have one done then the other later after the first was healed because it would hurt too much getting both done with the needle or something. I said I didn't care if it hurt, I wanted it done, but then they said that there would be too much trauma to the ear. I gave up and quit arguing at that point and decided I'd just get the other one done in a few months.
She told me to pick my jewelery and I picked a 14g BCR with a black ball. She said they hurt more, but I really wanted it. I knew they were just trying to prevent pain at all costs, but I wanted it done properly, regardless of the pain and I told her so. So she agreed and we went in the room.
The room kinda looked like a doctors office, only not as formal...however extremely sterile to say the least. There's a coushined table in the center of the room covered in thin paper that I was told to sit on. She put on new gloves then cleaned my ears with this cleaning solution stuff, then got out the jewelery (but left it in the package), the needle (in the package still too), her marking pen and a flashlight. She used the flashlight to find the veins in my ear so she wouldn't hit them with the needle then she clamped my ear so she could have both hands free, that hurt like a bitch and where the clamp was is where my ear hurts most now. Then make the dot and held the ring over the dot so i could see the placement. It was fine and I told her to go ahead.
Normally I get the usual "on the third breath I'll pierce" speech. But not this time, and I'm kinda thankful for that, it didn't give me time to get nervous. She pushed the needle in and it didn't really hurt, it was more like a really sharp pinch. Then she threw the needle out right away and opened the jewelery took the ball off and streched it a bit so it would fit over my ear. When she put it in it kinda hurt cuz there was a small plastic tube holding the hole open while she got the jewelery ready and the tube had to come out with the jewelery. But then it was on the jewelery so it had to be pulled apart even more to get that off. The stretching of the jewelery while it was on my ear hurt like a bitch and I believe I used some pretty colourful words, then it had to but squeezed back to it's normal shape and that hurt even more. I wasn't looking forward to having the ball put on but it wasn't that bad.
Finally it was done, it took what seemed like forever but was really only about 2 minutes. I admired my new piercing but still felt kinda sad that I didn't get the second one, kinda relieved to though. It was really tender right after it was done and I don't know if I could have gone through with the second one right away. I will get it eventually though...and the rook, just not quite yet.
This was done about 2 hours ago and my ear isn't read or swollen or anything. It hurts like a bitch to touch and clean though, and I tried turning it just a bit because the ball isn't quite where I wanted it to sit, but I couldn't budge it without pain, so I gave up on that. All in all however it wasn't too bad of an experience. For my next one though I think I'm going to wait until I can get to the place that I really wanted to go. The girl at Nail World didn't do a bad job, it looks great, but I really don't want this set of piercings screwed up.
If anyone wants this done I say go for it...actually if anyone wants any type of piercing go for it. Just do your research first, and go to a shop you trust. Don't worry to much about the pain cuz it will be over soon and the outcome will be totally worth it. Oh and one other thing, if your want it, don't put it off if you can help it. Get it done right away, if you chicken out you'll regreat it, a little spontaneity never hurt anyone and for most of us it's the only way to get what you want. Stay tuned for part 2 of my cartilage piercing saga.
