When It just happened
Artist Shane
Location Orangeville
So it was the beginning of spring, and there I was, walking down the street with my good friend Eric, when we walked by the local shop. At that moment I got the urge to have some metal put in my head.

We walked into the shop and I had remembered being on this site a few weeks before and I was introduced to the Snug. I decided thats what I wanted to get pierced because I thought it would balance out nicely with my rook and conch piercing I had gotten the year before. I went in and told Shane(the owner of the shop)what I wanted done. He examined my ear and then proceeded to mark the spot where I wanted it to go. I looked at it and decided it looked good, and we were off.

I laid down on the bed and watched him open the needle and the jewelery and what not, and I started to get quite nervous. He told me he was going to use a straight barbell, for reasons i can't really remember all that much, and told me if I had problems, to come back and he would change it to a curved barbell for me, so i agreed.

Eric was standing next to me laughing at how red my face was going. I started to remember the pain of my rook, and how awkward it was for me laying on that table. I made Eric hold my hand before my ear was even clamped. It got me to calm down a little bit. (I'm quite the pussy when it comes to piercings as you can probably tell.) Shane came over to me and went to clamp my ear. It took him a few times to get it right but he got it eventually. I remember laying there on the table just staring at Eric as he watched me, and waited to laugh at my pain. Then I heard Shane "Ok take a deep breath in, and let it out..." The second I started to exhale, I felt the worst pain I have ever felt so far in my life. and it just kept going. I could feel the force of the needle on my ear, he had such a hard time getting the needle through, it was horrible.

I remember the pain, and then Eric laughing at me, then it was over. I was fine, and my ear was fine. (for now) Shane cleaned me up and he was quite impressed with the piercing. So was I, it looked so cool. Shane went over the cleaning procedure and all that jazz, and I paid him and we left. It was a little swollen for the first week or two, and then it was totally fine, but I still kept up with the sea salt soaks and trying not to sleep on it. All was well.

Now it is 5 months later, and im having some gross problems with it. In July, I went to warped tour in Barrie, Ontario. It was so damn fun, except during one of my favorite bands, I got smacked in the ear by some really big guy. I was almost in tears. I had to get out of the pit and find some water or something to rinse the blood off of my ear with. This pain was far more worse then the original pain I had felt while getting it pierced. after a little while I was ok and went back to watch the rest of the bands.

We got back to my friends house and I noticed a bump forming on the edge of my ear. Well I thought it was a keloid developing or something, so I went back to the shop where i got it done, and they told me to warm up a bit of milk and soak some bread in the warm milk and then place it on my ear for about 5 minutes, and then do a sea salt soak right after. I was so confused by this, but I did it anyways. I went home and tried it, it was so gross, but I put up with it. I had never heard of this before. And it wasn't helping after the first few times, so I stopped. eventually the bump started shrinking and i was happy cause it was going away. Well I was wrong, now i had a bump full of fluid on the back part of my ear due to this piercing. I was not impressed and I didn't want to take it out, so I went back to the shop and went specifically to Shane.

At first he didn't believe that he had even pierced it because he said it was done wrong. Well at this point I was starting to get kind of mad, but I stayed calm. He took me to the back. and I explained how i was at warped tour and what had happened. His suggestion was that when that happened, The outer part of my snug was ripped backwards, and where the bump was forming, was where the piercing was originally pierced. It did make sense cause i had noticed a slight shift since march. He then looked at the big bubble on the back of my ear, and got worried. He told me to go to the local Walk-In clinic right away and get antibiotics to get the fluid out of my ear. He said not to wait another day. Now im worried. Of course with my luck the Walk-in Clinic was closed last night, and now im sitting at work telling everyone my story. So I guess im going tonight.

My advice, is when going to concerts be careful of any piercings that could easily get caught on people or anything, because it will just cause pain and problems!!

So this was my story, and please feel free to send me feedback or suggestions about it and what not.
