I started my ear projects about 2 years ago. I have been continually adding new piercings after the "old" one heals. For the sake of sanity, I alternate sides...so I can get some sleep. This particular evening, I knew I wanted to add another hole...but didn't know which one. I brought my drawings down to J.A.H. and went over them with the young lady working the counter. She basically told me that an orbital (which wasn't on my list, outright) was extremely painful. I suppose the way I had this piercing planned, its kinda like an orbital.

"Oh, shit" is the go-word for lights out.
I had a piercing drawn out that I had never seen before. It basically requires a navel twistie to be custom bent and then fitted to the ear. I'll get a picture up soon...but here's a description. It is basically a piece of jewelry that starts at 4 o'clock goes all the way around and ends at 7 o'clock. While it makes a complete circle, it does not touch...the ends are seperated about 1/2" making it a swirl or twistie (which we've chosen to nickname it). It doesn't go through the lip of cartilage that runs around the outer ear...the holes are actually through the higher-edge of hard cartilage that makes up the majority of the ear. After having discussed it with the young lady at the counter, Jesse came out to discuss it with me again...because he'd never heard of/done one of these before. He'd already had something similar in his mind from what the young lady at the counter had told him...but he wanted to talk to me about it before getting started. We decided on a twistie with purple-stoned balls. Very cute. It was autoclaved while he and I spoke. After a quick smoke-break for him, we got started.
He put what he called a "JIC" on me...which humorously translates into "just in case". It's basically a sterile towelette that ideally keeps any blood from getting on you (if you're a bleeder, hehe, like me). I like to relax and lay back...but this piercing made it impossible and I was forced to sit up. I was situated on the end of a seat and right between Jesse's legs. I chose to hold onto his knee for balance while I did the breathing thing to keep me calm. Now, I won't say that this piercing doesn't hurt...because it does. The first one wasn't so bad, but the second one was an eye-opener. I certainly said some nice, colorful words to proclaim my discomfort. After both needles were through, Jesse accidently placed the jewelry in like an orbital would be (both entering from the front). This is where he made the mistake of saying "Oh, shit...I did it like an orbital". He made a comment to his co-worker about how much of a goober he'd been for doing that and re-assured me that he could fix it. I trust Jesse...but I wasn't going to be hanging around for it...and out I went. Now, Jesse plays music in the background to ease everyone's nerves. Its not my kind of music, but it does help. When I went out, I heard music and it truly felt like I'd been asleep. When I came to (which was "waking up" for me) I saw Jesse. Kim walked over and put a wet towel on my head "how are you doing, hon?" she asked. Of course, I knew I'd passed out and began to recount it for the two of them. "I remember telling Jesse that I was going to pass out and all of the sudden I'm waking up to this guy leaning over me and all I can think is *Who the hell is in my bed?!*" We got the giggles over with and Jesse fixed his malplacement and screwed the balls on. That was the worst part. It always is. Of course, it doesn't help if its been a few minutes since that needle went through and its swelling nicely.
After sitting for a few minutes (which is pretty routine for me, I don't want to take a spill after getting up) Jesse let me check out my piercing. He was greatly enamoured with this piercing and even stated, "Pretty friggin' awesome, if you ask me!" I absolutely love the piercing. It is still sore, but that's to be expected. I cannot say enough good things about Just Another Hole. Jesse is extremely helpful and an all-around great guy. If you're thinking about getting poked, this place is certainly my favorite. Feel free to email me any questions you have about this piercing or Just Another Hole, I'll be happy to answer them. And keep and eye out for my piercing to be posted on BME!
