I am about to tell you about the wonderful world of tragus piercing...however before I begin with the actually piercing (which was a fairly short process) I'll fill you in on some other details.

I have always been a fan of tattoos and piercings. I am a very open minded person and luckily my parents have supported me, for the most part, in my unique views. My mom even has a fairly large tattoo on her lower back and some cute little tattoos on both of her feet! Now, by looking at me you would think I was one of those normal yuppies dressed up in their business suits working for the man. Yes, unfortunatly I work at a bank who has a very strict dress code therefore hindering my ability to distinguish myself. I try not to let that bother me though. Instead I find ways around the system by piercing my ears and getting tattoos in non-visable places.

The first time I ever saw a tragus piercing I was at my dead end retail job and this girl came in. Just by looking at her you could tell she was interesting and sure enough..one look at her ears and I was amazed. She had this little bitty hoop stuck in an interesting spot and when i asked her about it her eyes lit up. She explained not many people payed attention but that was her favorite piercing and she was suprised so few people noticed it. She then grabbed hold of that part of her ear and said with a big grin "these are your little tragus's aren't they cute!". With a small conversation about the amount of pain involved and where she went I had my mind set I was going to get my tragus pierced.

So it took about a year but luckily another hip girl started working at the bank recently who just so happened to be into similar things as myself and when I mentioned getting my piercing she said she wanted one too. I didn't really think much about it but the next day I called one of the three tattoo parlors in my town and got the price. That same day she and I arranged to meet at the parlor after work to get it done together.

Finally, we get to the tattoo parlor and when we walk in it seems pretty small there are a few guys standing around and a girl at the desk. She asks what we want we tell her, meet the artist/piercer, fill out some paper work and we are ready to go. My friend goes first. She is back in about ten minutes with a smile telling me how painless it was. Even with her assurance the butterflies start. So the guy calls my name and my brain starts screaming "THIS IS IT!" and I know there's no backing out.

I go down a long hall and get called into a side room. It's very stark and sterile so I was satisfied. The guy tells me to hop up on the chair vaugley explains the procedure and aftercare and begins the piercing. The receptionest was apparently apprenticing as well because she followed us back there and he explained the procedure to her and she watched everything he did. First he clamped my ear then he talked about placement and marked my ear with a marker. Next, he told me to take a big breath and exhale slowly as I take my breath the piercing started. It wasn't extremly painful. It did hurt but was more uncomfortable. I didn't hear the signature 'pop' that others hear but you could tell it was difficult to get through the cartlidge by the way his hand was shaking. It wasn't as quick as I would have liked but all together it took about 3-4 minutes. Then the girl gave me a mirror and I finally got to see it. I sighed..it was so beautiful.

Now I was afraid the piercing would be the worst part...however I should know from experience I don't handle these traumas to my body very well and it's actually the ten minutes or so afterward that really get to me. I always feel a little nausea after the procedures and normally I go to the same person in my home town and she gives me a sucker for the sugar and lets me sit in the chair and we just talk. However, this guy expected me just to jump up and get going which is what I ended up doing but soon regreted it. As soon as I jump up I start to feel really awkward. And to make matters worse I have to go to the very back of the building for a picture. I start to black out (luckily I don't) stumble to the back take the picture kind of smile and wave goodbye. Thanked the artist for his time and left

It has been about a week since it all happened and I am so happy. It is still a little tender and is difficult to move for cleaning but I am in love with it. The artist was very professional and had a great attitude and made me feel comfortable which is important. I am considering getting my right side done but it may take me a while. If you are debating on whether you should or not I say go for it! It's a simple fairly painless procedure that leaves you with great results. Good luck!
