It all started when I was younger, about 12, when I first started to realize that people could get piercing anywhere they wanted and I was amazed! I never knew that you could get anything other then your ear lobes. I started looking for different things that you could get pierced and became very interested. I started to bother my mother for more piercings and she finally agreed. A few days later we went to the mall and I got my cartilage and my second hole and ever since then I've been obsessed with piercings, and I looked at them everywhere I went. I even started to notice when people used to have a piercing.

I began searching BME for something easy that I could pierce myself but, sadly, I found nothing that would hold my interest. I began looking and I found, my new love, the tragus, but I was scared because I didn't want to hear the crunching noise that everyone always talked about or the fact that it was supposed to the an extremely painful piercing which was very hard to heal but I decided that I should try my luck but, I would have to convince my rather conservative mother that this was not going to turn me into a rebel (as she had thought about my tongue piercing, DIY) and that it wasn't going to harm me or anything in the process. I started to research the tragus piercing and I probably read about 100 to 150 experiences about what it was going to be like and what type of care it would required and excreta. I began pestering my mother to get it because I was 15 and underage and you have to be over 18 to not have a parent signature. After many, many long days of pestering, she finally agreed! We set a date and the wait was on (we chose Saturday) but, of course I would have to obey her rule and not go against her or my sister for about a week.
Saturday came quicker then I expected so me and friend got driven by my mother to Sacred Body and Tattoo in East Windsor which is close in proximity to my house. We arrived and walked in no problem. The man behind the counter asked what I was getting and gave me a form to fill out. After my mother signed it I handed it and got my name called to go in and see Micky.
When I got into the room, I realized how much it smelled like a hospital and I became a little tiny bit nervous because I have had some pretty bad experiences in hospitals! I think he realized that I was nervous and he began to talk to me like he new me which was a great relief because it made me feel more comfortable with him. He opened many packages and explained that everything was sterilized, answered my questions and how the procedure was going to work and I said I was ready. This was the moment that was bitter sweet for me because I wanted to get this piercing so badly but at the same time I was scared shitless, pardon my expression. I was dreading hearing the crunching noise that this piercing was so infamous for! He cleaned my ear with an antiseptic wipe which smelled horrible, so it should have done its job correctly and marked the spot with the purple markers that piercing places use and told me to give him a second. He fiddled around with the earring and then bent the needle slightly. I guess this was to make the penetration easier or something. She spun the chair closer to him which was, I'm sure, to prevent the trauma of attempting to push and needle in a straight back. He told me to hold still and try not to flinch if I could help it. I took a deep breath in and then exhale slowly and sure enough, I felt a slight sharp pain, and I'm sure I flinched after feeling something like that but the pain was bearable and then intense heat and a little uncomfort as he put the bead on to my earring. At this point my adrenaline was starting to wear off and the piercing was beginning to hurt a slight. He told me to look in the mirror and I instantly fell in love! I was so happy! He gave me the aftercare instructions which were to wash it with antibacterial soap, not to let anyone touch it and that soaking in sea salt water would do it was world of good and take down some of the swelling and then that I was free to go. I paid the man at the front desk and he asked me how it went and I said great and he looked it "\Ãw€ë and said it was beautiful so he took a picture of it for their photo album, and off I went, home to go and show off my new earring!
I clean it everyday just like my piercer told me to and its healing up fine. '
For anyone who is even thinking about doing this procedure, consider it wisely but I do recommend it for anyone who is looking for a new addition to their collection and who has a high tolerance for pain! In this case, DIY isn't the way to go.
