Since I was about 15, I've always wanted to get my industrial pierced. I was surfing the web looking at navel rings (at this time I wanted my navel done), and came across this unique piercing. At the time, my parents were extremely against any type of body piercing except the traditional ear lobes. So, getting anything done was completely out of the question until I was 18. I had gotten my navel done when I was 17, but they didn't know that hehe. I also had stretched my lobes to an 8g (which I let close up, stupid me!!). I was ready to get something new, and something that looked neat. The industrial was my first choice. I wanted a piercing that everyone would look at and ask me about. So.. heres my story.

Well, my 18th birthday rolled around, and about 2 months after that, I was sitting at work one day talking with some friends about getting tattoos and piercings. For some odd reason I realized I had some extra cash, and I decided that today was the day I was going to get my industrial done finally. I was pretty ticked off that day anyways, so I figured a piercing might make me feel better. So I picked up my boyfriend after I got off work, and we drove the 2 hours to Duluth to the piercing shop so I could get it done. I was so excited on the way up, I couldn't stop talking about it. I probably drove him nuts but oh well.

I felt fine on the drive up, but once I got there, my heart started to pound and I was getting really nervous. I was sitting in my car about 3 blocks away, and I felt like I was going to puke. The pain factor kept popping into my head. I am a huge wussy, and I didn't want to pass out or anything. I kept telling my boyfriend that I couldn't go through with it, but he kept assuring me that everything would be fine. I got out of my car and started walking and turned around twice, but finally he just grabbed my arm and dragged me down the street towards the shop. I finally gave in and walked in.

They had me fill out some paperwork, just the usual, name, address, age, la-de-da-de-da, and they checked my ID and that was about it. I was shaking so bad I don't even know if it was legible.

Next, they called me back into a room and had me sit in a dentist sort of chair. He cleaned everything in front of me and marked up my ear where the piercing was to be placed. I kept asking dozens of questions, he must have thought I was nuts. Finally, he pulled out the needle and told me to take a deep breath. The first hole was just a slight burn and pinch, not bad I thought. I got ready for the second hole, and before I knew it, he had shoved it through. My ears have a slight little bump on the bottom (where the 2nd hole went through) so it was pretty painful. I guess everyone could hear me yelp out in the lobby. I didn't even feel him put the barbell in, but once i turned around and looked in the mirror, I realized the pain was definetly worth it!! I couldn't stop looking at it! I was still shaking uncontrolably, so he made me sit there for awhile, but it was just time for me to gaze at my new piercing.

After I had calmed down, he took me out into the lobby to discuss some aftercare and he gave me some sea salt spray. Everyone who was in there looking at tattoo designs and such couldn't stop looking at my new piercing. As I walked out the door the wind hitting it kinda burned, but I didn't care. I almost wussed out, and I am so glad that I never. This is by far one of the most fun piercings I have.

So for anyone questioning getting an industrial done, just do it. Yea, its gonna hurt, its gonna be sore for awhile, but its totally worth it. I constantly get compliments and people question it all the time. Pain factor I would say it hurt a little less than my navel. If you've ever stretched your ear lobes I'd say that hurts more than getting the industrial done. The healing time for me is still going, it gets sore when I sleep on it at night sometimes or if someone bumps it really hard. I have developed some keloids, but they are gradually going away, but you can't even barely notice them. It was a great experience, and I would definetly recommend it to anyone who asks.
