It is only really in the last six months that I have became interested in getting my body piercings. Before the beginning of this year I had only one set of ear lobe piercings which I had done when I was twelve, and since February this year, I have got another 2 ear lobe piercings, I did have a cartilage piercing at the top of my ear which would have made 7 in my ears, although I took it out after three months due to it annoying me so much and it just hurt too much and didn't think it was worth the pain, 2 naval piercings which will soon be turned into four (making a cross), a nose piercing, and my newest and probably my favourite piercing my rook.

I had been looking into another piercing for quite a while, but thought it better be something that my parents won't moan about (haven't told them about it yet) and something my work wont moan about as nose piercings are the only facial piercings we are allowed. So I decided another ear piercing would suit me fine. But the decision was between my tragus or my rook. A few of my friends have their tragus pierced so thought I'd go for something that none of them have done or have even heard of. I myself only came across the idea of having my rook pierced after looking on BME.

Pay day came along and I finished college at half twelve so I decided to head along to Retro Rebels and go and get my rook pierced. I was really nervous about this piercing more nervous than I have been about any other ones probably just because I had been told it would hurt really badly. My ear cartilage piercing was really painful so I thought I would go ahead with getting my rook done anyway as I could handle that one.

I went up to the counter to see if Daryl my piercer was in, he was on his lunch break at the time and I was told he would be back later. So I wandered around the town for a bit. I kept thinking of backing out and just going home, but me being me and it being pay day I needed to treat myself to something and I knew I wanted it so I went back an hour later after having something to eat ready to get my new piercing.

I got taken through to the piercing studio where Daryl told me everything about the piercing. He marked my ear, showed me the mark and asked me if it was placed ok. I agreed and he explained to me the clamp would hurt more than the needle. The clamp was put on and I wouldn't say it hurt it just felt really uncomfortable because of the way it had to bend. But about the needle hurting less than the clamp in my opinion the needle hurt a whole lot more! It was one of the most horrible pains I have ever felt, it felt like it took the needle ages to go through as well which didn't make the experience any more enjoyable.

Then getting the Jewellery put in also hurt, although I always find that the worst part of a piercing anyway. When it was finished Daryl showed me my new rook piercing. I looked at it and fell in love with it and it was definitely worth the pain although wouldn't get the one on my other ear done, actually I probably would. I felt slightly warm after having it done so sat and had a glass of water and discussed my future piercings with Daryl. After feeling better I thanked him left and told him I'd be back. I went outside and showed my friends who were waiting for me. I love the reaction I get from this piercing its just usually "ouch" or "did that hurt?" well obviously I've just had a needle put through my body, the most annoying comment I have had is "why did you go and do that?". But I don't really have an answer for that or any of my other piercing other than I like them, and that's all that matters.

Cleaning this piercing is really awkward and hurt so much the first few times. I'm using hot salt water to clean it which I use for all my piercing, but they aren't hard to clean, but because of where the piercing is, it is really awkward to clean and involves a lot of patience. I love how it just sits in the middle of my ear, and fair enough it is sore to sleep on but I've only had it done for a couple of days and already the pain doesn't feel as bad as my ear cartilage was.

I would honestly say this is my favourite piercing as I have seen very few people with it done, and the pain I went through made this experience even better. A minute or two of pain is definitely worth getting this piercing done and If you are interested in getting your rook pierced I say go for it.
