I have loved piercings for as long as I can remember. I managed to get up to seven holes (one in my belly, 3 in my right ear, 3 in my left) by the time I was 17 but still, I felt like I needed more. My first and second holes were done professionally with a stupid piercing gun but my third hole on my right ear was done professionally by...ME. (again, not very smart and I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS). My upper helix on my left ear was also done by me, and this one, while it hasn't completely migrated out of my ear, was pierced so close to the skin you can see the barbell through it. Great sign that I will never be a piercer. And again, I do not recommend piercing your own ears or any other body part for that matter. It is not safe nor is it sterile but if you're like me, you won't care. But think before you do it, or let someone else do it.

Bummer.
I came to BME and started looking at other ear piercings. I didn't find any that I really truly wanted except for an industrial. My second attempt to satisfy my hunger for piercings was shut down...again! By a completely different piercer, I was told again that I have a poor ear anatomy. My ears are incredibly small. Probably, no joke, an inch tall. They don't have the normal insides of an ear either. My rook? Nonexistant. Tragus? Barely there. You get the point. My ears suck.
So besides the fact that I'm getting really depressed about having nothing to pierce he recommends my daith. I knew what and where it was but it never really appealed to me. I looked at a few pictures and decided what the hell, let's do it.
Nate was great. He talked me through everything he was going to do and asked if I had any questions. I didn't. I just asked that he did it fast and got it over with.
Let me tell you. This hurt like a bitch. and when I say that , I mean it. I can tolerate pain to any and all extents except when it comes to getting my daith done. He told me that it was just going to be a lot of pressure but no actual pain. And when I think about it, it was just pressure. A HELL OF A LOT OF PRESSURE!
So he clamps it and preps it and all the fun stuff. Clamping didn't hurt but when he started wiggling around and shit, that hurt a hell of a lot. I really thought I was going to cry. My friends were in the room with me and I could tell that they knew how much pain I was in. I didn't cry, instead I let out a "JESUS CHRIST!!" and it was done. The needle sat in there for what seemed like hours but when he finally got the CBR in it was as if nothing had happened. The pain was gone, no throbbing, nothing.
The only serious thing that happened was my friend fainting and falling flat on her face. Other than that, the bleeding was all that got me. My ear bled, and when I say bled I mean GUSHED blood for a good 2 hours. That sucked. Right now, as I type this, my ear is throbbing. I have had a headache for the last 2 days and it sucks but when I look at my ear (which by the way, has not been red, puffy, or showing any signs of a fresh piercing) it was SO worth it.
Nate told me how to clean it and everything, I clean this piercing religiously but let me tell you, it is just as big of a pain to clean as it was to get done. It's tucked away and so hard to get your fingers in there. Sea salt soaks help a lot. When it hurts I just soke the piercing and it feels so much better.
My friend got her daith pierced a few weeks ago (and I did not know when I got mine done) and hers did not bleed at all. I started thinking maybe something was wrong with mine until I read another story on BME and their ear gushed blood as well. I'm hoping the pain will go away soon. Sometimes it hurts REALLY bad other times its just uncomfortable when I smile. Actually, every time I smile, laugh, move my ears in anyway it hurts. Then it starts hurting all the time from then on.
So, if you are remotely considering this piercing I say do it. I can't tell you if it's worth it in the long run since mine is 2 days old, however, it is a beautiful piercing. I love how it sits in the ear perfectly. I recommend it to anyone, pain tolerance or not. You will get over it. And you will love the piercing!!:)
