Artist Myself

I have wanted to get my Anti-Tragus done now for about three years. About five or six months ago I pierced my Anti-Tragus by myself. I went to some piercing shops and the average amount it would have cost would have been Forty dollars. I did not really want to spend that much money on it when I could do it myself. So I went and bought a needle. I used the same earring for it for when I got my cartilage done. Before I went to pierce it though I wanted to find out some more information on the piercing and read some other people experiences with their Anti-Tragus piercing. I went on a few web sites and I looked at tons of pictures to find a good spot for it to be. I was not that unsure about me piercing it myself because I have pierced my friends' ears before and a labret and my clitoral hood. So I went into my bathroom and washed my hands with non-bacterial soap and used a non lint free cloth such as a paper towel and I cleaned the needle and earring thoroughly with a cleaning solution and put it on the skin before piercing. I also put a numbing solution on the skin before I went ahead and pierced it.

I poked my Anti-Tragus with the needle and I did not really feel it much because of the numbing solution. I pushed as hard as I good and at first I only broke through the skin, I had not gotten to the cartilage yet. Once I hit the cartilage though it slid right through until I hit the back on the Anti-Tragus where the skin was again. I pushed as hard as I could once again and it only got the tip of the needle through. It was about five minutes later and I was starting to get angry. So I put both of my fingers on each side of the small opening and pushed and it slowly went through. There was some bleeding while I was doing it. When I went through the cartilage and I hit the skin again I put more numbing solution on it because I started to feel some discomfort and pain. I was scared to take the needle out because I did not want it to close or anything. I waited about ten minutes before I took out the needle. It was not easy to pull the needle out. I had to tug on it a little bit. Once I got it out there was little bleeding and dry blood around the hole. I cleaned all that off before putting the earring in. I went to put the earring in and it went through up till the back. It closed, so I pushed hard again and it went through, luckily. After that I cleaned it again and made sure all of the blood and other residue for the numbing solution was all gone. I finally went through with it!

The next day I cleaned it and made sure all the crust and what ever else was all washed off and made sure the new piercing was clean. It was a little sore at times and I tried not to touch it. I cleaned it only three times a day everyday for about six weeks. After that I went to two times and slowly to one. For about two months there was still crusty stuff on my ear and I did not know how to make it stop. I came to the conclusion that it was the earring back that was irritating the skin and making it scab. I decided to put a hoop in it to see if the scabbing would stop. At first it did and then it came back. The hoop was a twenty gauge though with the circle part bigger and it was a little small. I tried putting a different hoop in it a few times that was at an eight-teen gauge. It would not go through cause of the size difference. A few times a day I would pull on the hoop to make the hole bigger as people do when they want to gauge their ears bigger. About a week later of doing this I tried it again. Finally it went through. The scabbing went away so I guess my theory was right about the earring irritating the skin. A bad thing with having hoops in it though is that its gotten caught on my brush a few times and that hurts. Every time I go to concerts I take the hoop out and put a short barbell in it so it does not get tugged on by anyone or anything.

Every one likes my Anti-Tragus piercing and I am trilled that I have done it. I will probably never take it out permanently. After I had done it a few of my friends wanted theirs done. It's one of my favorite piercing out of all the ones I have at the moment. I'd encourage those that are thinking of getting it to go ahead and do it!
