It started the day I got my rook pierced. I stood in front of the mirror at New Age Piercing admiring my new brand new rook and wondered what I would pierce next. I had to even out my ears (always a good excuse for more piercings haha). I asked Luis what he thought I should do. His recommendation was a conch, but I knew that wasn't going to be it. I had been admiring the snug photos on BME for some time and decided that it was perfect for me.

However, I had JUST gotten my rook pierced so I knew I would have to wait a little while before I could get a snug. In the past, my piercings have all been spontaneous and unplanned. Both my rook and tragus were a result of random visits to New Age.

So we left New Age that day and from then on I was obsessed with my future snug piercing. It was to the point where I photoshopped my ear to see what it would look like. (Note to anyone who decides to photoshop parts of their body to see what a piercing will look like: do not show your friends because they will never let you live it down!)

Spring Break was coming up and since I simply could not wait any longer, I decided to get it before break. Due to my busy work schedule and lack of friends with time to accompany me, I could not go before break as I had planned. It wasn't until about two weeks after break that I finally ended up back at New Age.

I went with my roommate Ashley (who got her cartilage pierced) and friend Ben (who was moral support). Ashley went first and everything went great. Then it was my turn.

Luis sat me down in the piercing chair and prepared his equipment. He was using a small curved barbell (16g I think). We talked briefly about positioning but when Luis examined my ear, he told me that I might not be able to have the piercing as high as I had hoped for due to the angle of the cartilage behind my ear. I trusted his judgement and we agreed on a placement slightly lower than I had first described to him. Luis custom bent the needle he was using and sterilized my ear. It was finally time.

I breathed in and breathed out, clentched my fists, swore like a sailor, and the piercing was half way through. The worst part about a snug is that it goes through two separate pieces of cartilage, so half way through, the piercer must stop and make sure that he does not pierce through the back of your ear. The needle went through the rest of the way and Luis quickly inserted the jewelry. I jumped from the chair in sheer glory and ran to the mirror to examine my new snug. It was perfect. To my surprise, the placement was exactly where I had originally wanted it. I was in love.

My snug definitely hurt more than any of my ear piercings, but it certainly was not unbearable. I would do it again in a second. The pain made it that much more worthwhile because it was more of an accomplishment. I am also glad that I waited and did not get the piercing spontaneously. Building up the suspense made the experience so much better. I wanted it so badly and when I finally got it, I decided never to get piercings sporatically again. I love my snug so much. It has been over a week now and it still is pretty sore. I avoid sleeping on it, which Luis highly recommended. I use Bactine to clean it twice daily only because I have used the product with great success in the past. Luis never recommends Bactine to his customers, but he told me to stick with what works. I would say that if you heal well and do not infect easily, Bactine is a good option. For more sensitive people, stick to good old dial soap.

My lovely snug is my favorite of all my ear piercings. It is unique and badass. People comment on my ears all of the time, which I absolutely love. I am considering a tongue web piercing next, but when I tell people, nine times out of ten they respond with "that is so disgusting!" I am sure I will get it anyways because I like it and fuck anyone who disagrees! I think I will wait for a special occasion (like being accepted into New York University perhaps?) and pierce my tongue web in celebration.

Here is my new lovely snug piercing (sorry if it is slightly blurred): SNUG!!

Good luck to anyone considering this unique and wicked awesome piercing! Feel free to email me with any questions or comments.
