My freshman year of high school I saw 2 different senior guys who had the transverse lobe piercings and I was completely mesmerized! I wanted one so bad. I knew my parents wouldn't sign for me to get it done so I made it my personal goal to get it done when I turned 18 (which was in December)

I talked to both of my older brothers about who both have multiple piercings and they said it sounded pretty cool but neither one of them had actually seen it. One of my brothers basically told me what to look for in a good tattoo/piercing parlor and my other brother told me about Purple Haze, which was where his fiancée had just gotten a tattoo, so I decided to check it out.

My boyfriend and I printed out a picture of what I wanted to show them just in case and we went over there. I showed the piercer the picture and she said she had never done one but she would try it if I was up to it. I told her to go ahead. She told me that if I didn't like it she wouldn't charge me for it.

She started with my left ear and she pushed the needle through then put a short curved barbell in. I checked it out in the mirror but it didn't look quite right so she took it out then she figured out what she did wrong. She apologized profusely for having to do it again but it was cool and she was really excited that she was getting to learn something new. She needed to clamp it to keep the skin from bunching up and she needed a longer barbell. So she repierced it and I checked it out and it looked great. She then pierced my right ear and it also turned out great. After taking the first one out I only had a small scab for a little while and I now I have a barely noticeable scar.

She told me that since she had to do it twice that she was only going to charge me for one so instead of it costing $50+ it only cost me $25. The piercings at Purple Haze are $25 (it's a promotional thing) and the longer barbells should have cost more but she didn't charge me for that either, which was cool. I really wish I could remember my piercer's name though it's a bummer that I don't! (If you live in the Lexington area I highly recommend this place too!)

The whole experience has been great and I love having my piercing. It's turned out to be a great conversation starter and some of the reactions that people have when they finally realize that its not just you're normal run of the mill ear piercing are priceless. The funniest part of it all though was that the most painful part of all was the clamp on my ear! Your ears will also probably stay swollen for a couple of days and I also developed big black blood bruises or something on the back of my earlobes but they went away after about a week, so it's really nothing to worry about. I also experienced a lot of gooping....I guess that's the best word for it. I wasn't too bad it was just while my ear was trying to heal and it just got kind of annoying. Just keep the area clean with something like bactine or Dial soap. (I recommend the Dial; it's cheaper and works just as good.) Obviously, with a piercing like this though it really is important to keep it really clean and like any new piercing keep it twisted and try not to touch it too much.

My best advice to anyone who has recently gotten this done is thinking about getting it done, is the make sure you keep it cleaned! It's a little harder to care for than just a normal ear piercing. Also, make sure that you let it heal completely before changing the earrings. I think it took about 6 weeks for mine to really heal but I also have sensitive ears so just use good judgment. I have recently switched to a horse shoe shaped earring and it looks pretty cool when I wear other earrings in my regular holes. Hoops are the best things to put with it. At first my parents were kind of upset with me for just doing it but I think they kind of like it now and they'll show it to all their friends. One of my brothers is considering getting it done and so is my boyfriend so I'm pretty psyched that I'm influencing other people too! By the way, in my opinion, this type of piercing doesn't look very good gauged too big, so I would have to say that if you like gauging things don't get this.
