I decided to get my Daith pierced after browsing the BME web site. I wanted to get something different done that not many people have in my area. (I live in a small town where not a lot of people have crazy piercings) I saw the Daith piercing and loved it. I have seen a lot of people with their tragus done, which was next on my list of piercings to get, so I decided to go for the Daith.
At A Glance Author Amy Rogers When Five years ago Artist Chris Kurr Studio Arts Under Skin Location Kentville, Nova Scotia I was at my friend's house one night studying for an exam, when I decided it was as good of time as any to get it done. We needed a break anyways, so we hopped in Adam's car and drove down to Arts Under Skin. I was not nervous in anyway, I had been through the piercing process before with my eyebrow and navel, so I new what to expect.
When I walked in to the studio, there was no one else waiting for work to be done, so I got right in. I sat patiently on the coach while Chris prepared everything. A few minutes later, he said he was ready and that I could go in. By this point in time, I was a little nervous, but not scared in anyway. I always get a boost of adrenaline right before I sit down in the dentist chair. I went in the back room, sat down in the chair and was ready to get it done. Chris put a bib around my neck, examined my right ear where I wanted it pierced and then began. He marked where the needle was going to pierce, and then made sure everything was ok with me. By this point, I just wanted to get it done. I asked him how painful it would be seeing as it is cartilage, and he told me it would be fairly painful but only for a moment and that I may hear a crunch when the needle goes through.
After getting over the crunch factor, I was ready to roll. He did not use a clamp because it is impossible to get it in that small of an area. I did not even think it could be pierced because it was fairly flat, but sure enough, it could be done. Chris had the needle ready to push threw, so he told me to take a deep breath and when I did, he shoved the needle threw my daith. It hurt, it hurt a lot, but it was not unbearable. I did hear a crunch, but I got over that fast. Next he had to slide the needle out while putting in the hoop. This felt very weird, but was not painful at all. After the needle was out, the pain was gone. He then put on the ball to close it. I was so excited to have it done. I looked in the mirror and feel in love with it immediately.
I walked out into the show room where my friend was waiting for me; he loved it too. Chris then told me how to take care of my new piercing. All I had to do was rinse with sea salt at least two times a day. When I got back to studying, Adam's dad asked where we had gone, so I showed him what I had got done. He just looked at me as asked why in the heck I would do something like that. I knew my mom would be pissed, she hates tattoos and piercings, but that won't stop a teenager. The pain did not last long at all, and it healed with no problems.
When I went home, I showed my sister my new piercing and she just loved it. My parents never noticed it for a long time. When my dad did, he did not even say anything, he knows it won't do anything. When my mom noticed, she was on the phone and I came down with my hair in a ponytail. She looked over at me, saw it and her only comment was "that better be fake!" I told her that it was not and went back upstairs. A few moments later, I hear her coming up the stairs, so I knew she would come and bitch, which she did. She asked all the questions a parent would and still did not believe that it was real. She did not think it was possible to pierce your daith. We obviously, it is very possible.
This is my all time favorite piercing and I can't wait to get the other side done. I have had many compliments on it because it is not popular here at all, so it gets noticed a lot. People are always saying, "oh my goodness, you have a piercing inside of your ear" and I just say "yep." I have also got my left conch pierced, an industrial piercing, my left tragus, two regular holes, and my tongue (which is another favorite, my boyfriend loves it too!) When I have enough money to spend on piercings again, I plan to get my other daith pierced and possibly my other conch pierced. I like to be symmetrical. But all in all, I love my Daith and never want to take it out.
