I use to really hate my ears. I have fat ear lobes... so when I had a standard lobe piercing it only made them look fatter... so I'd end up taking them out. I was really ashamed of my ears... I hated to wear my hair up.. they made me feel ugly.

When I was 13 I had my cartilage pierced. It made me feel better about my ears and I wasn't as embarrassed.. but I still longed to have my lobes pierced.....

When I was 18 I saw transversal lobes on BME and fell in love with the idea immediately! I wanted my lobes done across horizontally. I printed out a picture, showed my friends, and decided I wanted to have a standard lobe piecing with a transversal lobe above it. I went and had my ear lobes pierced again but this time I had them pierced close to the bottom of my lobe... so I'd have room for the transversal lobe. When they were healed I was ready to have the transversal lobes.

I'd never stepped foot in a piercing place.. so I was really pretty nervous. I went to Modern Primitives in Longview... I'd heard nice things about them so my friend and me decided that we'd go check it out. If we felt comfortable I'd get pierced.. if we didn't we'd look around, leave, then find somewhere else to go.

On a Friday night we went to Longview and found Modern Primitives. There was only one guy (James) working and he asked what we wanted done. I showed him a picture I printed out and he looked at it and then my ears.. he said he could do it.. I decided I liked the look of the place.. we talked about what kind of jewelry and what gauge would be best.. I choose a 16 gauge captive bead with his guidance...I filled out the paper work and he took me back to the piercing room.

I was pretty nervous. He washed the area and got everything out and ready. Someone came in and since he was the only one working he said he'd be right back... he took off his gloves and went to the front of the store to see what they needed... when he came back he put on a fresh pair of gloves and began again.

He did the right one first. Because I had already had my lobes pierced, it made it a little tricky. He told me to keep the earrings in though... and he marked the enter and exit spots on each side of my ear lobe... he looked and then gave me a mirror... he had them in the right spot. He got the needle and told me it might go kind of slow because he had to make sure he got it in the right spot and not mess up my other holes....

I smiled as he began.. and my friend said I smiled the whole time... I know I have a high tolerance for pain, but this was by far the least amount of pain I've ever felt during a piercing. He started from the inside of my ear and pushed the needle of the other side. Once the needle was in he grabbed the jewelry and pushed it threw my ear.. then he put the captive bead on it. When he was finished with my first ear someone else came in. He took off the gloves and when he came back he got a new pair... it's a very clean place! (I've been there 5 more times for other piercings since then and every time it's been very very clean...)

He did the other side pretty much the same. He marked the holes.. and then compared those dots to the new piercing on the right ear. When he was certain that he had them even he gave the mirror and let me look. Again I smiled as he pushed the needle threw my ear starting from the inside and going to the outside of my ear. My friend look disgusted by the needle jabbed threw my ear.. she had to look away.. hehe. He finished by pushing the jewelry threw my ear.. and putting the bead on it.

I was done. They healed pretty quickly without much soreness. I have never taken them out... I'm sure I could but I'm just scared I wouldn't be able to get them back in myself and since I'm not from Longview.. but a small town (with no place to get pierced) I haven't. Since then I have gotten an industrial and helix (right ear) and an orbital, rook, tragus (left).. but my transversal lobes were the start to feeling confident about my ears. I love my ears now.. and I completely satisfied. :)
