Three months ago I had my ear lobe scalpelled I had made the decision six months earlier as this is not the sort of thing I'd rush into as I wouldn't with any piercing or body modification. But with my lobes I had no choice if I wanted to go larger than 12 millimeters. Seven years earlier and not knowing any better, I rammed a sharpened pencil covered in Vaseline through both ears ripping and tearing the flesh. By the time I got to twelve millimeters I realized I couldn't go any larger without trouble.

For my right lobe was to thin at the bottom and I could clearly see if I was to use weights to stretch I could run the risk of a blow out and destroy my lobe altogether by ripping it in two. My left hole was to close to my face which wouldn't allow room for a large tunnel. I went and spoke to my piercer, Anders, The Piercing Guy and he advised me I really only had one choice seen I made a mess of them in the beginning and that was to cut the lobes with a scalpel.
Now, I must admit the answer made me kind of nervous as this wasn't any limb getting cut but a little bit of flesh at the bottom of each ear. I had read in the past about certain primitive tribes cutting ears instead of stretching so I figured I won't be lying on the dirt ground in the forest getting this procedure done. I' d be in a sterilized and hygienically clean environment having this done with the music of my choice, now that made it all the more inviting.
And after six months of thinking and meditating over it I wanted it even more. So on the week I chose I went and asked Anders when could he do it? With a smile that only Anders can give, he said to me this Friday if you want, I agreed. He told me depending on what size I wanted to go too we could start at 22 millimeters, he showed me a pair of Industrial Strength double flared tunnels he had there already. He booked me in also saying he had a new brand of scalpel blades he wanted to try out.
Then he continued by telling me just how he would do the procedure advising me that he would be removing a small piece of flesh from each ear. But he'd only be doing one at a time allowing one to heal before the other is cut, so I could sleep on at least one side. It's those sorts of things that make's me keep going, back to Anders. You could be a great piecer but without giving a shit about your cliental, what are you really?
All through the week building up to the procedure, I could not help but imagine what my ears would look like with their new found jewelry Then the day arrived, the hours in it went fast. I arrived at the shop thirty minute early and sat on the bench out the front. The Piercing Guys studio is in a shopping complex called Garden City in a suburb called Mt.Gravatt in Brisbane. So my walkman came in handy as I watched all the sheep go past. The person before me came out and Anders followed, he came over shook my hand and asked if I was ready.
There was now doubt I was and we ventured into his studio, then he ran me through the procedure once more then told me to sit in his chair. He pulled out his surgical pen and marked out my right ear after putting on my favorite music (which makes a world of difference to me). The worst thing for me to do anyway is' think about what the cut is going to feel like and I've found using music through the day and during the cut keep's my mind from those thoughts.
The tray was set up and his gloves were on and a new blade was fitted to the handle, then the clamp was put on my lobe.
The last words were spoken, "are you ready"? I replied with a "go for it". I felt a sensation that only a scalpel can give and I Knew I was certainly alive. After a few minutes into the cut I had to let out a growl with the music that was playing for a bit of a mental release, which helped a lot. Then I felt a wet sensation, a trail of blood slowly running down the side of my neck. Which made me think, bloody hell how much blood is there, if it is getting through the paper toweling taped to the side of my face and neck. I felt more cutting and then smelt blood, Anders asked me how was, I doing? Then told me he was ready to put in the tunnel. Because it was double flared, the basted didn't want to go in, one more cut had to be made which was answered by me with another growl.
The last cut hurt the most but the whole thing was worth it, after the duration of ten minutes and that unforgettable smell of fresh blood, Anders had made my ear look a treat. I felt exhilarated yet a bit tired. Thanks to Anders, The Piercing Guy.
