Most piercing ideas start with the body part not the jewellery, right? Not in this case. I'd seen a gorgeous style of CBR (Evolution Captive by Steel Skin) but just couldn't think of what piercing it would suit. Navel was out of the question as it only came in 14ga, I didn't think a lobe piercing would do justice to the beauty of the jewellery, and after that I was all out of ideas, so I put it on the backburner and knew that eventually the answer would come to me.

About three months after I first saw this piece of jewellery, it came to me – a daith piercing! I'd never really considered a daith piercing before as my body hates cartilage piercings, and also I'd never seen any jewellery that I thought would look nice. Until now that is.

So off I rushed to my computer with my credit card in my eager little hands and ordered two Evolution Captives (with the star cut-out, pretty!). Of course at this stage I had no idea whether my ears were even suitable for a daith piercing, or whether the CBR's diameter would be sufficient for this piercing, but none of that was important. I was buying pretty, shiny jewellery and that was about as much as my brain could compute at the time.

After waiting for a few weeks, they finally arrived. After letting out a shriek of excitement I proceeded to the bathroom and held up the captives to my ears – could it be? They looked as though the curve of the jewellery would fit perfectly in the curve of my ear. Of course I knew that appearances can be deceiving so I wasn't getting my hopes up only to have them dashed, so a week later I made an appointment to go to Primal Urge and have my daiths pierced.

I was the first customer in, so all I had to do was wait for my jewellery to be autoclaved and then I was good to go!

I followed Bob into the piercing room while he inspected my ears and said "What part did you want done again?" "My daiths" points at ear "Okay but its going to hurt". Bah, like I cared at that stage. After a couple of minutes of marking my ear, I lay down on the table and waited a nerve wracking tense minute or so while he was deciding how to pierce it.

I felt the needle pressing against my skin and tried to breath my way through the pain. Deep breathing is my lifesaver when it comes to piercing, some people might say its crap but it honestly does help make the experience so much more enjoyable. I was cool and collected until I heard a massive crunch in my ear and then tried not to panic too much. The piercing was quite difficult to do, as I don't have a very prominent daith in one of my ears so after the needle went through, then the taper, then the jewellery, I was feeling rather exhausted. But I still had another ear left to pierce.

This one was a lot worse as I knew what to expect – I knew exactly what was going to happen and when, and it made things a lot worse because the entire piercing seemed a lot more drawn out. Aside from a gasp and a bit of a flinch, I stayed as still as I possibly could and just waited for it to be over.

Pain-wise, this is certainly not one of the worst piercings I've had, it was actually one of the more enjoyable ones if you can believe that. The only thing was that it was very uncomfortable and a very small area to pierce, so its not really a piercing I'd recommend getting if you haven't had many piercings before as it might turn you off for life!

With my ears on fire, I slowly got up and then went and had a look in the mirror. They were perfect, absolutely perfect. The captives fit the curve of my ear as if they had been custom made, and they looked absolutely amazing! I could rant and rave all day about how happy I was with them but I'd better get on with the rest of the experience.

So after that, on a massive high, I went and caught the train to work and floated through the door (well not literally). I instantly ran over to my friends and just pointed at my ear with this huge smile on my face. Everyone loved my daith piercings. I got so many compliments on them which of course was a huge boost for the ego!

I work in a call centre and have to wear a headset all day so my ears were killing me by the end of the day, but I just made sure to baby them and do salt soaks as soon as I got home.

As soon as I got home, my mum looked at my ears and went "wow, they're really pretty". What? This coming from the woman who has hated just about every single one of my piercings, and she was saying they were pretty? They had to be good then!

Its now been a month since I got my daiths pierced, and they are still looking as gorgeous as ever. Have had very few problems with them, like all cartilage piercings they are incredibly crusty but as long as I wash my ears a few times a day its manageable.

This is the first time that I've ever had both ears healing a cartilage piercing at once, and it has been surprisingly easy. With my conches I wasn't able to sleep on either side until at least 6 months after the piercing, but my daiths have been all smooth sailing as far as cartilage piercings go.

Of course I know they still have a long way to go before I can pronounce them healed, but as long as I keep up with my aftercare I don't think that I'll have too many problems (at least I hope not).
