My birthday is in a week so I thought, I think I'll get a piercing to celebrate (I'm turning 18). So I looked up piercings for ears on BME, because I was bored in school ;p . I fell in love with the tragus at first and got that done the next day... it didn't hurt, it stung for about two seconds but that was all. Anyways, about the vertical tragus... I was looking at BME and wanted to post my story on the tragus, but then this picture caught my attention. It was so cool! The vertical tragus piercing does look amazing and painful , but it is worth it. If you could get a tattoo this piercing is nothing!!!!

So I call up Frankie, who has pierced my tragus a week before , my double tongue ones, my helix, my belly , my daith piercing and helping me out with tattoos. He is so friendly, I wouldn't recommend anyone else!!! He is just so amazing- as a person and a piercer. He says he's only done it once before (duh! It's a rare piercing!) . but I totally trust this guy, and he says he'll check everything out . so I make an appointment for the next day. I was so excited I couldn't wait! I couldn't even sleep that night... hehe. i really love the adrenaline i get. it is so addictive.

I reach the studio- ran all the way up the escalators, dodged the slow shoppers, barged in, and grin at Frankie. I was on the net the night before and I was worried when I found that some people do get rejections for this particular piercing. I voice out my concerns . He explains that some people's vertical tragus piercing is not done right , and how it has slanted, that's why it starts to migrate. My belly one started to migrate so I took it out (sob). So I feel a lot better. I asked him if I could change my daith jewellery and he graciously leads me to the room and changes it for me. I've never been able to take it out, dunno why! Then he explains what he is going to do, where it is going to go through , that it might hurt more than my other piercings.

Next he cleans my ear with alcohol ,the usual, gets out a clean, new needle, gets out his tongs or clamps ,whatever you call them. I really hate the clamps! They hurt a lot more than the piercings!! Anyways, he uses a pen and dotes my tragus showing me the entry and exit points. I'm too scared to say anything else so I just nod. I just wanted to get it over and done with.

He tells me to breathe as he clamps my ear (ow!), then counts three, two one, and the needle goes in. I felt it, it was like the tragus or any other piercing really, then the pain starts kicking in a little .it wasn't unbearable, just uncomfortable. He took a little while longer, and explained that it was a hard piercing and he has to do it carefully and slowly. I respect that, but I was in pain. I wanted to swear, and opted for a less vulgar one – I'll leave that to your imaginations!

This is the scary bit. I heard the classic pop. I thought, cool,it's gone through. He then puts in the ring – apparently it heals better and is easier to clean. I was bleeding a lot, he said it was the same with the previous guy, and the blood trickled into my ear. You know the feeling when water has gone in your ear and you can't hear very well? I got that. I thought I was going deaf and freaked a little! But he said it was ok, calmed me down, and told me to tilt my head a little. it worked. I was lying on the dentist chair you see. He cleaned it, explained the basic cleaning method and I was done!

I looked in the mirror and thought, this is so cool! He took pictures, because he's only ever done it twice! I was so proud! He tells me to look after it because I have a special piercing. Keyword being special haha! Anyways I pay for it, and rushed home to show my mom. She nearly fainted, and made me take a vitamin and antibiotics so it doesn't get infected. I guess all mothers do that.

If anyone is thinking about it, go for it. The pain is not as bad as everyone says it is. It did hurt a little, but it was bearable. It took awhile but when the clamp came off I was fine. Anyways, good luck to anyone who's thinking of it. I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
