I had wanted a tragus piercing since I was 14 years old, when I saw a girl who had it done. I thought it looked awesome. When I brought it up with my parents they both said "no" before I had the chance to bargain with them. I begged and begged for the next couple of years, but they had made up their mind. They were raised to believe that piercings were wrong. In the past I had always got them to give in around the third or fourth month, but not this time. I knew that if I were to get any more piercings, other then the four ear piercings and one cartilage piercing I already had, I'd have to wait until I was old enough to get them done myself. I had to wait two more years until I was 18. The time went faster then I thought it would.
At A Glance Author Grace Contact groovy_chick4469@yahoo.com When A week ago Studio Dragon's Lair Location Bay City, Michigan The day of my 18th birthday, I went to the only piercing shop I could find, which probably wasn't the best idea. I was lucky that this place was clean. Although the guy (I can't remember his name) who did my piercing seemed to know what he was doing, the piercing place looked more like a jewelry store. It had showcases full of jewelry and picture of tattoos everywhere. I brought my sister and my cousin with me for support. Yes, I'm a huge wimp. They were both younger then me so they were not old enough to get any piercings without parental consent, although they tried to convince the piercer that they were over 18. The piercer asked what I wanted and I told him I wanted to get my tragus pierced. He had me fill out some papers and asked to see some ID, which was expected because I don't look over 12 years old. It was late at night so there was no one else there, but my cousin, sister, the piercer, and I.
Finally he brought us into a back room that had a dentist-like chair in it. He had me sit down, while he got all the supplies ready and laid out on this table in the room. They were all pre-packaged, so I'm assuming they were clean and new. He didn't let me pick out the earring I was going to get, which was okay, because I was so excited just to be there. The earring he was going to be using was a hoop with a ball on it (I forgot what the name of it was). He pulled out "the clamps" which I heard hurt worse then the piercing. I did not even notice them there, although that may have been because I was so nervous. I held my cousin's hand and got ready for the worst part. He said he used a 14g to pierce it. I had heard and read stories that this piercing didn't hurt, so I wasn't expecting anything too bad. He told me to take a deep breath and he pushed the needle in, which didn't go in easily, he had to push really hard to get the needle to go through. It hurt a lot worse then I had expected, but I think that's because my tragus is thicker then most. It felt so long and drawn out too, but I was glad that the hard part was over. I didn't even hear the "pop" that I thought would happen. He slipped the earring in. I couldn't stop looking at it in the mirror, I loved it so much. It did bleed, but only a tiny bit. He told me some aftercare instructions and gave me a sheet on how to take care of it. I think he just wanted to hurry and get me out of there. I then thanked him and then left. I was thinking about getting my left tragus pierced as well, but after getting my right one done, I decided real quick that one was enough for me.
It's been almost a week now and it's feeling a little better then it did when I first got it, but it's still really sore. The first couple of days after I got it pierced I had a hard time moving the earring around when cleaning it. It hurts to open my mouth all the way and my face on the right side is a little sore too. I can't talk on the phone with my right ear and I can't sleep on my right side anymore, which really bothers me, because that's the side I usually sleep on. I've been babying it and cleaning it 3 times a day with saline solution. I can't wait for it to heal up so I can change the earring.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to get it done. I think it looks gorgeous, and it was definitely worth getting.
