Recently 6 months ago I decided I would finally go to get my nostril pierced. Having not done anything spectacular for my 18th birthday I finally wanted to get my first facial piercing. After that I was really hooked!!!
At A Glance Author Kristin When It just happened Artist Trent Studio Splash of Color Location East Lansing, MI Before my nose I also had my 1st holes pierced when I was 8. My seconds pierced when I was 15. My thirds pierced and my left cartilage when I was 16. Then my right cartilage slightly lower than my left one when I was 17. All of which my mother took me to get. My Dad never really knew what was going down and he noticed a week or two after the fact.
Now I had an impulse to get another piercing, but I wasn't quite sure what to get. So I searched through BME and found in the ear section two piercings I liked the tragus and snug piercing. I decided to get the snug piercing because it is a not very common piercing. I decided to get my tragus pierced later on.
During this time I also talked one of my best-friend's Chelsea into getting her eyebrow pierced. I always liked them and having thought about getting one myself a while ago I thought she might like to get one. So her and I headed down to Splash of Color in East Lansing, MI. I had gotten my nose pierced there 6 months previous and I really liked their studio and Renee did a fabulous job. I originally planned to have Renee pierce my ear, but turns out she doesn't feel comfortable performing that type of piercing. Actually she hadn't ever really heard of that piercing and she's been doing it for quite a while. When I got there I told them what kind of piercing I wanted and the guy and chick at the counter looked at me like I was crazy. I tried to explain it to them, but they still didn't know what I meant. The girl told me she was brand new so she was still learning. I told her don't sweat it just let me talk to the piercer. This guy named Trent came out and I told him what I wanted and he knew exactly what I meant. So we filled out all our paperwork and were set to go. He said I had to go with a curved barbell so that was cool with me and Chelsea got a barbell also.
Then we walked back to the piercing room. Trent asked us who wanted to go first and Chelsea volunteered me of course like usual! I like being the adventurous one anyway! So I hopped up on the table feeling just a little bit nervous. I think the only real reason I was a little nervous was because the cartilage on my ear is pretty thick, thicker than the three of my helixes put together! I originally wanted my left one pierced but he said that my second helix would be too close I didn't really want to take my earring out. Then I asked him how he'd think it would look on my right one. He said he'd thought it would look awesome especially since it isn't a very common piercing at all. So he explained the procedure and then made the two marks. (A snug piercing actually consists of 2 holes.) I was satisfied. Then I layed down on the table while he got the needle ready. He told me then to take a deep breath in and then out. I felt a kind of a crunchy noise then the needle was through, then the jewelry was through. I layed there as he soaked up the blood. It didn't bleed too much though. I looked in the mirror and LOVED IT!!! It was very tender and burned somewhat though. It didn't hurt that much at all. I was pleasantly surprised! Next was Chelsea's turn which ended up taking less time then mine (even though he had to use a taper on her.) I like watching him pierce her eyebrow I always find that kind of stuff really cool. Actually I was thinking of taking up tattooing or piercing as a job while I am going to Art School.
Then Chelsea and I tipped Trent well. He was quick and very good too! And a really nice guy! He said he wasn't working at Splash permanently, but temporarily just helping them out. He said he owns his own studio in Indiana. All in all it was an awesome experience as usual at Splash. They are one of the only studios in Michigan certified with the Health Department. So they have my vote of confidence. I went home with one of my most favorite piercings (if not my favorite), and at last my ear was snug perfect!!!
