Well, I am no novice to body mods. I have one tattoo and a start of another. I have my left conch pierced and a quite sturdy 0 ga. in my prince albert. I had an 8 ga. in my ear, and this is where the whole thing begins.

I had an 8 ga. in one ear and got my other ear pierced at an 8ga. Behold shit happens and my body does not agree with large gauge piercings. I had a pretty bad migration problem and had to remove the ring. My other ear I had pierced at a 16 and stretched up. O well. Moving on. When I was up at Evolved body art in my hometown of Columbus Ohio, I was talking to the head piercer Nick, who I have known for years and he has done some of my work. As he was removing the migrating ring he told me that if I wanted to go huge on my lobes that lobe cutting was a definite route to take. He said that 10 mm was an excellent size for starters.

I called him a few days later and said that I was going to have my cuttings done for an early birthday present in April. We made plans and both marked our schedules. In the meantime I got my wife and mother in law to come and give support and snap pictures of the event.

Still being March and the Ohio winter still had us in a headlock it made the days drag on longer till the time for my ears to take on a new look. Soon enough April 5th had arrived. Nick called me that morning to say we were still a go. He told me to show up around 8:45 for a 9 pm appointment. Ear cutting and other like minded mods are not a regular thing on the Evolved menu, but for special people they are performed after the shop closes.

I got there a little after 8:40 with my support crew, and one of the tattoo artists said Nick was on his way. While we waited I filled out the required paperwork as my wife and mother in law looked at jewelry and flipped through the artists portfolios. About 10 minutes after we arrived Nick shows up and greets all of us in his usual cheery manner. He said to hold tight so he could get some final sterilization done and get everything set up.

The time has come. As we were waiting a photographer Dan, shows up to do more pictures of the event. At 9 on the dot, the door was locked and we were ready to go. We all walked to the back piercing room and I remember thinking that I was not nervous and was looking forward to the procedure. I knew I had no reason to be nervous but someone told me one time that if you are not nervous at all before a piercing, something is wrong with you.

My fanclub was standing by a counter out of the way and I hopped into the big chair with the bright lights surrounding me. I was after all the star of tonights show. Nick explained the method of cleaning and aftercare and made sure I understood, which I did. He said that this product H2 ocean was a great cleaning solution, and handed a can to my wife to hold. Now the long and boring part.

Nick cleaned my ears off so the working area was nice and sterile. Then we talked about placement. He told me that the cuts would be made at an angle so if I wanted to go bigger that al the stretching would go to the back of my ear. He then made marks where each incision would be and made sure that they were even. After everything was checked and double checked, then checked again for shits and giggles we were ready to cut.

I was told that my job was very easy, KEEP BREATHING!! We got my inhales and exhales synched, and we were on our way. My ears were never to be the same again. I laid my head back and relaxed. I saw my mother in law and Dan raised their cameras, and My wife was watching in silence. Nick told me he was ready to begin and I gave him the thumbs up to go ahead.

He took hold of my lobe weilding a number 11 blade scalpel in the other hand. I di not feel the scalpel go through my lobe although I could hear my skin seperate. I knew that the scalpel slid through like a hot knife through butter. However all I felt was a rush of energy throughout my body. I knew at that point I was alive! After the incision was made he ran a 10 mm taper through for easy insertion. This part is the only thing that I could say was not the most pleasant. Following the taper was the 10 mm hollow plug. One side was done and I was cranked up. I was given a glass of water and got to calm down for a second before the other side was done. After a few minutes, when I calmed down and got back into the zone or my happy place if you will, it was time to make my other ear match. That side went just as easy as the first. After an hour of working from start to finish my ears were now adorned with two clear hollow 10 mm plugs. Both my earlobes were thumping but not in a painful way by any means or stretch of the mind.

Clean up was a snap. First off I did not bleed more than a few drops on either side. When I was all clean Nick and I posed for pictures. All the instruments were transported to the bio room for cleaning and my family and I went out to the lobby. Moments later Nick emerged and we settled the bill and ended the evening on a good note. Walking out to the car the air was cold on my ears and felt great. I had an euphoric high that lasted for days afterwards.

Healing was a breeze. Now three months later my ears are fully healed and I have a plethera of different plugs to suit my mood. This was a really great experience in body modification. I would tell anyone thinking about doing it to go for it!! It sounds really freaky but is no different than any other piercing.

I would like to thank Dan and my mother in law for snapping off some awesome pictures, my wife Maggie for being so supportive and a big thanks to Nick and the entire Evolved crew, for being professional, kind creative and all around kick ass artists in this crazy world of body modification.

If anyone has any questions that I did not cover you can e-mail me at trippyboy76@hotmail.com and I will answer any question that I recieve.
