Wow okay where to start! I absolutely LOVE my rook piercing! I got it today at exactly 12:17! Haha I asked the time right after it was pierced.. So anyways I will start with the whole story from the beginning.
At A Glance Author Jen Contact Jen@bme.anon When It just happened Artist Sam Studio Next Body Location Vancouver, Canada Before today I had 3 piercings on my left ear, 2 on my right ear, and my naval. I thought it was time for another one! So about a month ago I started researching on crazy/unique piercings for my ear. I wanted something different from everybody else because all the girls at my school look like a bunch of clones with just ear lobes and the main upper cartiledge pierced. I started looking at pictures of snugs and thought that they were really cool looking, but once I had read reviews I found out that they sounded pretty painful! I then stumbled across the rook. I thought it look fascinating! It was soo unique and kind of hidden yet really awesome once u took a good look at it. I read the stories on BME (the GREATEST body piercing sit EVER haha) and I found out that the rook sounds to be completely PAINFUL. I had looked for like hours deciding what to get and I decided that the rook was just toooooo beautiful to turn down.. I would get it no matter what it took! So just about 3 weeks ago I started begging my parents for another piercing.. They thought I already had enough and didn't like the idea of this one. After making many deals about how I wouldn't get any more piercings until I was 18 (which is so not true :) They decided to let me get just ONE more! I was sooooo excited!
So after 3 weeks I was FINALLY aloud to go. Today was like the only time that my mom could take me so it was arranged to head out to NEXT in Vancouver. I absolutely love this piercing place. I got my naval done about a year ago there and I had no problems with it at all. The place is also very clean and the people are so friendly! My friends also loved NEXT and recommended it to me for my piercing! I made sure to have a big breakfast and load up on sugar before I went. I was very nervous the last time I went there and felt like I was near to fainting. I didn't want to have any troubles this time! So we left for Vancouver at 11:00 and arrived at Next about 45 minutes later. I had sooo many butterflies and was about to explode with nervousness. I talked to the guy at the jewelry counter (can't remember his name) for like 15 minutes and finally decided on getting a 16g barbell in my rook rather than a hoop. I heard that barbells in the piercing made it easier and fa ster to heal. I paid the guy $80 (very expensive :S but it was definitly worth it!). I was able to be pierced right away since there were no lineups and it was pretty early in the morning! Wow it was then time to get pierced!
My piercer was named Sam and she was extremely nice! I was a little bit nervous because her 7 year old daughter was standing watching over me.. and same with a new person in training to become a piercer. I had 3 bodies hovering over my little left ear. Sam cleaned my rook and showed me the sanitized needles coming out of the packages. She gave me some lavender aromatherapy to calm me down and told me to take big breaths in and out. I remembered that last year I had 5 breaths in and out before she pierced it.. so I was expecting the same this time. All of a sudden on my 3rd breath out she poked the needle through my rook.. MY GOD IT HURT LIKE HELL. It was incredibly painful but I just stayed calm and kept my eyes closed. She slid the jewelry in, which wasn't bad at all (most people say that the jewelry going in hurts more than the piercing) and it was all over within seconds! Yes I am admiting that it hurt like a mother but it was only for like 5 seconds so after tha t I could no longer feel the piercing pain! My ear did sting a bit but I just shook it off and slowly stood up so that I would not get a head rush and faint! Sam showed me my new piercing in the mirror and I absolutely loved it! It was soo beautiful! My little rook was gorgeous! I thanked her sooooo much and walked into the lobby where my mom was waiting. She said my ear was a little more red than usual which is to be expected.
It is now 5 hours later and it still stings a little bit but not too bad. I am sure that it will be quite a pain to clean and sleep with. I better make sure not to roll over at night! I definitly recommend getting your rook pierced people! It totally adds on to the look of your whole ear and it is just adorable! I am soo excited to later put in really unique and colourfull rings and barbells after a couple of months (if its healed by then!) Just be patient like I'm going to be because I hear it takes quite a while to become completely healed. I can't wait to soak it in some sea salts with warm water. It will feel so nice! If any of you guys live in the Vancouver area make sure to consider Next for your next piercing! It is a very clean place with extremely friendly people and very professional piercers! They know what they are doing! Well I'm out! Thanks for listening to my story! Ask me any questions about it!
Peace
