About a year ago, I was 17 at the time I really wanted another piercing on my ear. I only had two of them on my lobes, so I wanted something original. I was thinking about getting the traditional cartilage done at the mall, but it was so typical that I wanted something new. I was looking at my ear for places to pierce and I thought the rook would be really different. I've never seen anyone with it done before, so I figured it was original enough. My mom took me to get it done since I wasn't 18 at the time. My friend also went with me to get her tragis done.

It was a spur of the moment decision for me to get it done; I had not thought about it for a long time and didn't really think I would actually go. Well when I got to the place my mom was very freaked out. She is very conservative and has never experienced anyplace like that before. She was just surprised at the pictures on the wall. It was funny to see her face looking at men's pierced genitals.
The guy named Tyson at the counter was very sweet and informed us on everything and helped us pick out jewelry. Then the guy who would pierce it came out and talked to us about everything with the piercing. Well a few minutes later it was go time...I went into the room and I was so nervous. It looked like a doctor's office. I couldn't even comprehend what the guy was saying to me I was so nervous, I can't even remember his name! I laid down on the table and tried not to think about the fact that the needle was about to be inserted. He did not clamp it or anything, he just put the needle up to my ear, asked me to breathe and put it through. It didn't hurt at all to my surprise. It did make a loud cracking noise, like a stick breaking; however, it was just uncomfortable because it took him about 2 minutes to get the jewelry in since the ring was hard to close at that area without putting me through a lot of pain.
Well it was all over...all of those hours of tension relieved in seconds after it was done. I went to the bathroom to look at it and came back to watch my friend have her tragis done. We went to the counter to pay and I started feeling sick to my stomach and really hot. Tyson looked at me and told me that I should go outside for some fresh air with my friend to accompany me. Next thing I knew I woke up in Tyson and my mom's lap on the floor of the place. My friend was laughing her ass off at me. I had no idea what had just happened.
My mom told me that after Tyson told me to go outside I started stumbling sideways and Tyson jumped over the counter to catch me and I was out for about 2 minutes. I've never fainted before...but hey I guess there's a first for everything. Tyson told me that it doesn't happen often but it's perfectly normal for someone being that nervous and then being relieved of it all in seconds. After fainting they sat me on a couch and gave me some candy. There were so many people in the place that saw it, and got a good laugh, I just hope i didn't scare anybody away.
The only complication was that my rook got really infected a few weeks later and I had to go through a lot of pain and doctors who told me to take it out...but after that experience I told myself there was no way I was taking it out. The place where I got it done was great and i take all my friends there to get things done.
Now my rook is perfectly fine and healed and I take it out and put it back in all the time for soccer. I recommend getting it done...its painless...just be prepared for anything! I took the hoop out and put in a barbell just because it's easier to put in and take out everyday. I love my piercing though, I am really happy that I got it done. People compliment it all the time, however some people are freaked out by it, but you'll get those types of people. I'm going in for another piercing soon and I'm getting my tattoo in 5 days!!
