I already had 4 lobe piercings and 1 standard ear cartilage piercing and I wanted something a little different. I wasn't exactly sure what to get done so I decided to have a look on the net and search for some pictures of piercings, that is when I found BME. I had a look at a lot of the pictures on BME and decided that I wanted to get my tragus pierced. My mate at school already had her tragus pierced (this is the only one that I had ever seen before) and I really liked it. I asked her if it hurt etc and was happy with what she said so I decided to go ahead with it. Then I had to tell my mum...

At the time I was only 15 so I couldn't get a piercing without parent permission. I told my mum what I wanted to get pierced and showed her some pictures. She said she didn't mind me getting any piercings on my ears as long as I didn't get any on my face. She even agreed to take me.

My sister had previously had her belly button pierced in a piercing shop called Bananas, which was only about 30 mins from my house, so I decided to get my tragus pierced in Bananas. In the Easter holidays my mum drove me to the shop and I told the piercer what I wanted done and asked how much it would cost (only 20 pound). Before he said he could pierce my tragus he had to have a look at it and make sure that it was suitable to pierce, luckily it was. I had to wait a little while whilst a girl got her nose pierced, but it was fine. I wasn't nervous at all as I don't really feel pain.

Then the man called me into the little bit that is sectioned off from the shop, where he would be piercing my ear. He told me that I would have to have a hoop to begin with as these are much easier to clean and will therefore heal a lot faster. I was a bit disappointed as I had planned on having a stud, but I knew that I would be able to change it so I said ok.

He then washed his hands and got all the new equipment out that he would be using. He then put some gloves on and wiped my ear with a little wipe and then marked my ear with the marker. He held a mirror out for me and asked me to check the positioning, which was fine.

Then he got the needle out and placed it to my ear...

I have got to say that I never even felt the needle go through my ear! The only thing that I felt was the needle passing through the skin at the back. I heard the popping sound that everyone always goes on about. If I didn't hear that I wouldn't have even known that I had had it done. He then took the needle out and replaced it with the jewelry. Throughout the whole piercing I never felt one bit of pain, and it never bled.

I paid the man and he explained the after care and gave me a leaflet with all the aftercare on it.

At first I didn't have any trouble with my tragus. I was cleaning it twice a day, like I had been instructed and it seemed to be healing well. I had no problem sleeping on my left side (which is the side I had pierced) after a few days.

However, as I thought the piercing was fully healed I began to not clean it as often and kept playing with the jewelry. This caused a lump to form by the hole and I then had to continue to clean it daily so it healed up. It healed up fine when I began to clean it again, and I have had no problems with it since.

I have had it done for about three months now and have just recently changed the jewellery for the time. I bought a little diamond stud and desperately tried to change the jewellery myself, but I just couldn't get the ball off. I had wanted to change my jewellery for so long and now I wasn't able to. I decided to go back to Bananas and ask them to change it. He eventually got the ball undone, he said it was very tight, and put my new stud in for me. It has completely healed now and I couldn't even feel him put the new jewellery in.

I'm much happier with my new stud now, it looks a lot prettier. I recommend this piercing to everyone, but just make sure that you clean it properly and try not to touch it all the time. My tragus was my first "different" piercing and now I really like the idea of all the different modifications. I have asked my mum if I'm allowed to get my tongue web pierced. Hopefully I will soon be writing my story on here about my tongue web experience. *fingers crossed!*

HAPPY PIERCING
