I found a picture on bme about a year and a half ago of a daith, and completely fell in love with i. I knew that this was the ear piercing I wanted done to complete my ear 'projects' (I have antitragus, helix and tragus, but no all in the same ear). I also have other piercings including a double navel, tongue, nostril (septum to be added soon) and side lip.

As my antitragus had been quite painful to pierce and a pain to heal, I was a bit nervous, but decided I really wanted this piercing. One day, me and my now ex girlfriend decided to go to pro for her to get her nostril pierced, and me my daith.

Unfortunately, when I asked for a daith piercing, she didn't know what it was... she thought it was a rook. She said that she had done 3 before when I directed her, so I decided to go ahead... it is experience isn't it?

Alison had her nostril done fist, and found I really hurt. I then sat in the chair, where my piercer cleaned my ear and then numbed it. This honestly didn't do anything, I think they just do it just to put your mind at ease. I had taken in my own titanium jewellery, and she autoclaved this before I was pierced.

She showed me that the needle was coming out of a new packet (to show it hadn't been used before). She clamped my ear (I have a rather large daith so this was easy) and then shoved the needle though. Jesus this hurt! And the needle wasn't all the way in. she gave it a final push and yay! It was in.

Then it was time to put the 1.2mm by 9mm ring into my ear. She put it though the receiving tube and pulled it out. She then had a hell of the time getting the ball on the ring, as the piercing is in such a difficult place. In the end, for the time being, we decided to put a bigger ball in it, to save me having my incredibly sore ear being pulled about. She told me to come back a week later for the ball to be changed.

By hat evening, my ear had really calmed down. My mum hadn't noticed it, and nor had my dad (mind you, it took him a week to nose my nose piercing). The next day, I went to have some acupuncture, and George (my therapist) noticed I straight away. He has a fascination of telling me what everyone blocks... in my daith's case, no much. He did my acupuncture (yay, another 24 needles stuck in me). For some weird reason, this made my ear sore again.

To clean this piercing, I used savlon spray and a cotton bud. I find that savlon really works for me, so try it.

I went back a week later to get the ball changed. My stupid piercer decided to take he ring out, so she could tighten it without it being in my ear. Unfortunately, my ear healed over while I was out. She couldn't get the ring back in. we decided to try putting the ring that was in my helix into my daith (his hadn't been autoclaved). Luckily with a bit of pushing I went in. It bleed a bit, but within a week was on its way to healing.

A couple of days later, I went to Leeds festival, and unfortunately go my ear infected as I didn't clean it. However, it only took it a week to get it disinfected, and it then stated healing quickly. I got a couple of red lumps on it several times, and I find the way to get rid of these are just popping them with a needle. I've done this with all my ear cartilage piercings, and while unadvised, it's the only thing hat works with me.

After it was healed (which took about 2 or 3 months), I got a little concerned on whether the placing was correct, as it had hurt so much to pierce. However, last week I went to Pandemic in Hull as I had lost my lip ring bar. I have heard excellent things about this place, so asked him to take a look at my daith, and I was placed perfectly! I plan to go to pandemic to get my septum and nipples pierced while living there in the summer.

So while I hurt, I came out with one of the most unusual ear piercing, plus one of the most beautiful ones. I get people asking me all the time how you get an ear piercing gun in there... do they know anything? If you like this piercing... don't think about the pain, just go and do it.

Happy piercing
