To start out this was my most recent piercing, but by far not my last.

I was the kid who had to beg to get their lobes pierced, and about 8 piercings later I still manage to have to beg for new ones, but all of them have been worth the time. Before the rook I had gotten my conch, but as much as I liked it I came home the next day and started on my routine full day internet search to find the next hole to add. That's when I stumbled on a picture of someone with a rook... I was in love.
I researched and then tried to judge to see if I though my rook would be large or accessible to get at to pierce because not everyone is qualified (physically); for the hole. Luckily I was!
I then made a slide show of pictures for my doubtful mother and showed her the pros and cons. My major seller for my apprehensive parental unit was to show her that from the front a barbell was invisible, hidden by the front edge of your ear. She then went on to say that it looked like a guys piercing but with my short hair that doesn't really do much as I've been mistaken for I guy many times.
Off to add the hole:
So my dad takes me up to my newest favorite piercing joint and we checked in, and since I had been there just about 2 weeks before for the conch one of the guys recognized me. I picked out my barbell and they gave me one to change it to when it healed. I then went back to one of the rooms. I had dyed my hair the day before a lovely silver color so the piercer and I talked about that during the standard set up. Not nervous yet... don't know why but im really comfortable with people piercing me, I think it's somewhat of a relaxing rush. She then went on to prove that the items had been properly sterilized and marked. Trying to see it in the mirror was a challenge but we finally got the perfect spot. Then I sat back down and she put the cork under to shove the needle into, not nervous yet. then I knew the needle was next, but she didn't do it right away which is what I expected, it took her a little bit to make sure that it was going in at the right angle, which I am very grate ful to her for but that's when I realized what was going on and started to get nervous, but sooner then I knew there was a screech from my friend and the lovely awkward feeling of the quick shove through of the needle and the push of the barbell.
Overall:
I would say that the worst part was having her screw the end ball of the barbell on, she had to pull my ear and that didn't feel too good, but it wasn't that bad. After that my ear was a little red but that was it.
After:
That night I was able to sleep on it but I haven't since because it irritates my conch (on the same side) to do so. I've had it about a month and I'm sorry to say but I don't really religiously follow the treatment procedures after, but all of my holes have healed perfectly fine. I may change the barbell to a ring in the future but after getting it pierced I would completely recommend getting a barbell instead of a ring. The barbell makes people wonder what actually was pierced, the ring can develop those lovely bumps that everyone pierced has come to "love", and the barbell is also a lot more comfortable then the ring when I come to anything involving touching it. the ring can also get stuck on things... I know it seems like an unlikely location for hooking actions but it can happen trust me I've come through a couple experiences where I actually thought how lucky I was for wearing my barbell and not a ring because having it ripped out of my ear would not be nice at all!
It's so funny to see people's reaction to the barbell because they don't see it until I turn of something and then they flip out about how neat it is and how it looks really painful. It was almost the least painful piercing, but that screwing was uncomfortable.
Overall I have 5 lobe(3 on one side and two on the other) that I keep a version of an orbital in, 2 cartilage in my left and the rook and conch in my right
I am completely satisfied with my rook and I would do it about 10 times more if I had the chance. My next adventure is and industrial, lip, or eyebrow, just depends on which is more accepted by the parental unit.
