Lets get strait to the point. I was planning on starting an ear project and thought I better get started and get my tragus done. I had so far only gotten lobes and an Industrial. I was having some problems healing so I backed off the project for a bit... A bit being almost a year. So I thought I better got off my lazy butt and get going on it.

After reading a couple story's on BME and looking at some pictures I knew exactly what it was I wanted, where I wanted it and how I was planning my ear project!

So off I was. The long drive up to Needles Ink is always worth it and gives me time to think about what exactly it is I want. As I stepped into Needles Ink and breathed in the oh so familiar smell of cleanliness, I was greeted by Spencer along with the few others there.

I told him what I wanted and was on my way. Since I was only 13 at the time it took a fair amount of begging to get permission, and anyway my parents have always been pretty co-operative when it comes to my piercing addiction. Spencer showed my Mom some pictures and the size needles and ring that would be used. She seemed satisfyed so she went and sat in the car (she doesn't do well around needles, blood, etc)

I paid the $30, signed all that legal stuff that no one ever worries about and was soon in the back room. It was exactly how I remembered it; A dentist like chair was on the far wall, a burgandy bed was along the other wall, and the strong smell of cleanlyness filled the room like a plague. I loved this place, it was so friendly!

Sadly enough I didn't get to pick out my jewellery, oh well, I would be changing it soon enough anyway. I told him I was starting an ear project (just to see if he needed to do anything different). He said it didn't matter, I could get custom bars made later.

He said he was going to use a 14 gauge leaving me open to more options when I get going on my ear project. He cleaned and marked my ear and I was off. Like always, he took out the individually wrapped needles, opened them up and set them on the counter along with the jewellery. I knew I didn't have to worry about anything not being sterilized; everything was in its own wrapper.

To tell you the truth, I wasn't nervous at all. I have had so many piercings done by Spencer and they have all went well. Painful, but well. He asked if I wanted him to count, like always I said no, just do it. And he did it. The needle went through with a small amount of pain although it was what I expected.

On other stories I had read before I got mine, everyone said you could hear a "pop". Well, I was looking forward to that "pop" and it never came. I could hear him fiddling with the needle but never a "pop".

Anyway, he got the needle in, and then the jewellery came next. It was like any piercing, kind of awkward to get in. While he was putting the ring in, I was sitting there trying to figure out how he was going to do it. I figured that maybe he would take the needle out and slip the ring in or-

"your done," he said. I laughed; I was to busy thinking about what he might be doing that I hadn't realized he was done. It was a simple closed bar ring with a black bead that sat quite perfectly in my ear. Spencer went over the aftercare tips and I was on my way.

Well, I liked it for a while, but like most all piercings, the excitement of having it wore off. My plans of an ear project soon were changed when I got into biking and couldn't wear a helmet without a great deal of pain so I would take it out very often. Well, I must have left it out for too long as it started to grow over and I had quite a hard time trying to poke it back in so I just gave up. I have now had it out for almost a year and I do miss it.

I do plan to get it redone one day on the other side, so I would recommend it. If you are planning to get it, just make sure you don't hit it on the phone because it really hurts! The small amount of pain is worth it!

-Happy piercing! And good luck in the future!
