Before this piercing I had only had 3 piercings in the upper cartilage of my ear, and they were done with a piercing gun (I wasn't aware of the problems at that point in time.) Anyway, I had seen a guy working in a shop near me with a piercing through his lobe, but it was shockingly pierced horizontally, I asked him about this odd, yet wonderful piercing, and he explained that it was called a horizontal transverse. I wanted one of these piercings for months after that, but alas, I was under age. Finally when I turned 16, I gathered some money, and went to a piecing parlour in my local town, I hadn't been pierced here before, and I was amazed when I got inside, the staff were friendly and offered me lots of advice, unlike the last place I went to that used a gun. They looked at my ear and talked about the piercing with me for about half an hour, and after that I decided that I would definitely like to have the piercing carried out. Unfortunately I hadn't brought my ID with me , so I had to make an appointment for the next week. The next week I brought my ID with me, and I went to a local jewellery shop beforehand, and bought some replacement 20mm barbells and some 10mm spikes for the ends. Then I headed of to PX piercing, it is located 9in Chinatown, and in an office block style building, I went to the front door, got buzzed in, and went to see the owner, I got there, and we talked about the piercing again. I then showed them my ID signed a release form and was ready to be pierced.

So they lay be on a bed, and used some spray that numbed my ear completely, and the owner's wife pierced the ear, whilst the owner talked me through it. The spray felt like it had frozen my ear, after this they wiped off the excess numbing spray and prepared the needles, they were going to use a 20mm barbell with externally threading balls for then ends, it was surgical steel, and looked very cool. She put the needle in my ear; it didn't hurt much, but was uncomfortable to say the least. Then she pushed the barbell through the hole, this was more uncomfortable, but still not painful, the main reason why it was uncomfortable, was that she had to navigate through a long lobe, which must have been pretty tough for her to do, as she told me that, even though she was trained to do the piercing, she hadn't done many, as they are rarer than many other piercings. After this she screwed the ball ends on the barbell, and said she was all done, she then wiped off the little blood that was on my ear, and told me to lie down for a few minutes as I may become queasy or even go into shock. After the 3 minutes I told her I felt alright, they gave me a mirror and I checked out the piercing, I was very pleased, as this was a piercing I had wanted for such a long time. I then paid the owner £20 and then I had a lengthy conversation about cleaning my ear, and preventing infection. After this I thanked him and his wife, and told them I would recommend them to all of my friends and would definitely be back. I left the store with a smile on my face, and a really hot ear, for some reason although it didn't hurt; it did feel as though it was burning.

For the next 3 months my piercing didn't hurt at all, however it did need cleaning everyday, and I had to pick the little scabby bits off the bar everyday, although I did enjoy this as it relieved boredom. My family weren't impressed, as I didn't tell them about it until it was done, as my mother doesn't approve of piercings. My friends reactions were mixed, some liked it and some didn't, this was something I guessed would happens everyone has their own tastes. Unfortunately after 3 months, when my piercing had healed, I had an accident. I went to close the blinds in my bedroom and as I turned and walked away, I felt a sharp tug on my ear, and a lot of pain. I went to the bathroom and noticed that I had torn my ear. Blood was gushing down my face, and once I had cleaned it up, I saw that I had a centimetre long slit where I usually had a tiny hole at the base of the piercing. This is currently healing and I am hoping it won't leave a scar, or even worse, leave a permanent s lit in my ear.
