T'was the twenty first day of the second month of the year of our lord, 2003. T'was a bitterly cold evening when I ventured down to my piercer's shop. I flung open the door and rushed into the warm stairwell where I found some respite from the cruel weather. Slayer music playing in the background, I began the ascent up the stairs to the counter behind which he sat, my piercer. As I approached, he greeted me with a smile and a kind "hi" in his soft comforting voice. I proceeded to tell him I wished to have my conch dermal punched. I began to talk with him about what kind of jewelry I wanted. I could choose between a six gauge titanium barbell or a six gauge titanium plug. I chose the plug, since I was short on money. I then followed him back through the winding corridor into the piercing room.

My coat removed, I lay down on the table. He placed one of those blue paper things with a slit in it on my head, with my ear on the other side. He continued to mark the placement, and then came the fun part, the punching. He held the dermal punch against my ear to be one-hundred percent sure of the placement. I took three deep breaths, and on the third exhale he pushed the punch through. To my surprise, it hurt less than a piercing. It was rather loud, and I didn't see, but I could tell there was a rather large quantity of blood. I lay still, talking about after care and so on, for about 2 minutes while he held a square of gauze on my brand new hole to stop the bleeding, for the most part, after which he inserted the shiny titanium plug. I then got up put my coat back on, and followed him back out to the counter where I paid him, and thanked him for a job well done.

I proceeded to descent the stairs and exit back into the bitterly cold night, the icy wind biting at my face and clawing at my fresh piercing. The cold air dropping the temperature of my plug down to sub zero temperatures in mere seconds, I discovered that cold is most certainly not your friend if you have a fresh large gauge piercing. Before retuning home, I went to the video store, where I am sure people were staring at me, due to the fact that I had a large amount of blood on my ear.

Once I got home, I proceeded to shower, and remove as much of the coagulated blood from my ear as possible. For the following week, I had to contend with it bleeding at night. I cleaned it morning and night, using ivory soap (yes, I have heard ivory is bad, but it's the only soap that doesn't dry the hell out of my skin) and rinsing it with sterile saline solution to remove dried blood. I cleaned it like this for about three months, and it took probably six or seven months before I could sleep on that side of my head without it getting irritated. Even now, I cannot keep a ring it for more than a few hours or it gets really itchy and angry.

Anyway, that's pretty much all I have to say. Thanks for reading this. If you enjoyed it, thank you. If you didn't, it's not my damn fault you can't appreciate my genius, haha, just kidding.

Anyway, when you plan to get anything done in the way of piercings, I recommend that you make sure your piercer/tattoo artist knows what they are doing, and if you are under the legal age and can't get parental consent, don't risk your health and go to some back alley shop, and get stuck with a rusty safty pin. Your own health should come before fashion, so do yourself a favor and wait, and for the sake of your own health, do NOT try to pierce yourself. I have heard of way too many times where people pierce themselves, then wonder why it rejects, or becomes infected. I personally have considerd piercing my self, but I know I do not have the knowledge or experience to do so safely. Also, don't be cheap, you get what you pay for, so don't think you can get a quality piercing or tattoo done for five dollars, it just dosen't happen. So, pay the money and get a decent practitioner to do it for you, other wise you will regret it. Anyway, I haven't got much else to say, except have a nice day, and play safe.

Yours truly, Adam.

P.S. if you are in the Calgary area, I highly reccomend you go you Adorned Precision Body Piercing. Thanks.
