I got my ears pierced first when I was 5. From there, I didn't really worry about piercings until it suddenly became popular to pierce the top of your ears. I suddenly wanted to be like everyone else and get it done. *god I was a stupid 13 year old.* I tried twice at those cheap places that use guns, but the piercings never healed right A) because they were with guns, and B) because I was grossly misinformed about the aftercare. BUT they did serve a purpose...piercing was a new world and I was ready to explore it.
At A Glance Author Lisha Contact spock_ears@hotmail.com When Six months ago Artist R.J. Studio NewTribe Location Toronto, Canada I started researching...wow, there were a LOT of things you could do to your body! Facial piercing excited me and I thought it looked very pretty...I decided for various reasons, mostly involving me being able to get a job later, that I wanted my nose done. I learned my lesson about guns, and so for my 18th birthday I went to NewTribe in Downtown Toronto. I got it done, and when that needle went through my skin I knew this was going to be trouble, I've never had such a rush. I was literally hooked :)
Because my future jobs will be highly business oriented *specifically working in a law firm as a contract lawyer* I needed to keep my piercings fairly social exceptable. *I've since decided to get a lip ring and just take it out or retain it when comes the time, so so much for that :)* I figured the next step was to get my ears done. After about 6 months of planning and seeing what would look good, I decided I wanted three more holes crawling up each ear and, on my right side, a cartilage piercing to offset my nose piercing on the left.
I went to R.J., my new best friend at NewTribe. He asked what I wanted, and took his time making sure everything was perfect. He broke out the rulers and everything, and we must have erased at least 10 times to make sure everything was JUST right. He asked me if I wanted to get the worst over with and work down to the lobe, or work up from the lobe so I know what to expect. I thought for a second and said we should work up. Hehe, sounds dorky but since my first piercing I compared so much to an orgasm in terms of the rush, I wanted a bit of a pain build. Of course there was the gloves, wrapped jewelry that had been autoclaved, sterization of my ear before hand, the aftercare talk and general chit chat while we got ready to pierce me. It turns out that I paid for three lobe and one cartilage, but how I wanted it spaced one of my lobes would run up into the cartilage. He smiled and said he'd do it regardless to save me money.
Needle-jewelry. Needle-jewelry. Needle*this was on the bridge between cartilage and lobe, so this one hurt alot more*-jewelry. Finally came the most painful, the very top. I was SURPRISED how painful it was! It went away in a matter of minutes, but it still knocked me off my feet. For some reason it hurt more then a gun did. The jewelry went in. He closed them off and beaded them and that was it! My ear was so warm from all the blood pumping to it, I felt lightheaded from all the pain, I was in heaven. I floated out the door after tipping R.J. 10 bucks, and started walking to where I was going downtown that day. The whole thing cost me about 150 bucks all together, and as I touched my ear and felt metal there I smiled. I got lots of looks because of all the new holes in my body, and it only made my piercing expierence more enjoyable and made me want to do it again even more.
The only thing I'd change is getting them done all at once. Healing was a bitch, I could never pay enough attention to all of them, and there was always one that had the bump or hurt. Also my body's healing stuff was split into four, so as a result all of my piercings took longer to heal then usual. They're ok now thanks to sea salt, hot compresses and tea tree oil, but it was a huge hassle. Just take your time and get them done one at a time if you're thinking about having multiple ear piercings.
Soon I'll be getting my left side done, minus the top one, to match it up. I'll be doing them one at a time, being a fan of my own advice :) I'll be nice to have to sleep on my right side for once, I got use to sleeping on my left so much that the rights not comfortable anymore.
