Hey, I would like to tell you that I have a valid reason behind my piercing but I don't so I can't. Anyways, let me get on with the story before you get bored with me rambling on. Hehe.

So, this piercing happened yesterday. It was pretty random and that morning I had no idea I would add an 8th hole to my decorated ear... I was browsing through BME and was interested by reader's stories of self pierced cartilage. I have pierced my cartilage once myself before, but I got the other 6 holes done professionally. Anyway...after about an hour of reading stories I got a random urge to pierce again.

Some ice, a darning needle, salt water and a standard gold piercing stud later I was upstairs in my bathroom sat on the toilet seat contemplating what I was about to do and thinking what the best way was to go about it. My other self piercing was an already pierced hole but had totally closed up so this one was a bit different as it was totally from scratch.

I picked up the ice and put them to the bit of my ear that I was going to pierce.(I knew this because I had three cartilage piercings and they were evenly spaced and so I figured I'd try and do the same with this one) I held it for about a minute I think, I didn't time it. I popped the needle and ear ring in the salt water to clean them as best I could as I don't have anything else lying around my house. Then I put the ice back on my ear. About 30 seconds later I was getting impatient so I done a little pinch test on my ear to test for numbness. Well, I could feel the pinch but I didn't care because I wanted this piercing.

The needle was now in my hand (let me warn you...if you are piercing with a stupid instrument such as a darning needle, do expect it not to be as clean as if you went to a proper piercing place as, of course, it is a needle...but dumbass me doesn't care about that kind of thing and I just think that I can chance it, if I get it infected I do, if I don't, well everything is cool) and im shaking a little at this point. Not too badly, but enough to notice.

I put the blunt needle up to the unmarked place where I want to pierce and I breathe out and start to push. I forgot how tough ears are and didn't apply enough pressure so I tried harder but as I'm a big baby when it comes to pain I didn't want to push to hard in case it hurt.Stupid me. So I take the needle out and realized It had gone further into my ear than I had thought and there was a tiny little bit of blood so I took out the 'clean' stud and stuck it in the hole that I had made with the needle I put two fingers on the back of my ear so that I wouldn't poke my finger with the ear ring and placed my thumb on the front of the stud and pushed with all my might and, 'pop' it was through. I took the back of the ear ring out of the salt water and quickly stuck it on. I was so pleased with myself. You should have seen the grin on my face. i was on an instant high!!!

So, the piercing was over. I ran downstairs and showed my mum. She thought it looked cool but didn't take much notice really as piercings aren't really her thing. After that went upstairs and cleaned everything up. i really am on a high. i think im getting addicted to piercing.

It's been a day since I pierced myself. I did it on the spur of the moment because that's the type of person I am...random. Its been ok so far, like an ordinary piercing. I was happy with the placement and thought I did a pretty professional job (obviously not because of the un-sterilized equipment, tut tut) and was quite proud. There was a bit of redness and it felt hot (like all my other piercings did) but it's ok now. It's only tender when I touch it. I am overall a very pleased piercer!!!

I would just like to add that I wouldn't recommend what I did to other people. By all means do it if u really want to but be aware of the risks. Infections are nasty and can result in you loosing the piercing. Go to a professional, that's the best option for most people. I wouldn't ever attempt to pierce anything myself except my ears. Be happy, happy piercing xxx
