You must be reading this because you want your rook pierced right? You are probably extremely nervous, wondering how much it is going to hurt, right? Lets just say that the anticipation is much worse than the actual piercing!

I have wanted my rook pierced for about a year now, but was always too afraid to get it done, because it does seem like it would hurt. After that year of waiting a friend finally said, "Your getting it done, and I am taking you." So of course, I went. We had our little adventure planned out for about a week, and that is all I could think about all week long. The day finally came, and we went to Custom Tattoo and Piercing to get it done.

This was the first time I had ever been to this shop, and it looked very small! When we walked in, there were pictures of tattoo designs and piercings on the walls, and the walls were all a big mural. It was a small place, which with me made it feel cozy. Then a guy popped up from behind the counter and said, "Hi, what can I do for you ladies today?" Of course, I asked him the normal questions first such as "How was does a rook piercing cost," and the most common question, "Do many people say it hurts?" While he was talking, I knew that he really knew what he was talking about. He was honest with me in saying, "yes, many say it does hurt." Of course, I was very nervous when he said that, but he was honest, right? He showed me behind the counter, and explained all the equipment. He had this big spaceship looking thing, and said that it was a sanitizing device. Sure enough it was.

After finding out that it was only 30 dollars, and already being in the shop, I couldn't just say forget it. The owner, Dave, asked if he could look at my ear first, because he only does it if a person has "the perfect ear." He said that mine was perfect! He asked me to lay down in the chair, and lay on the left side of my head. The best part was he had gloves on the whole time, as soon as I began asking questions, he put them on! He then got the needle out of a brand new sealed plastic pact, and a new clamp out of one as well. When I saw the needle, I was close to backing out, but I kept talking myself into it. He asked which hoop I wanted in, and I picked the one I liked, he also said that there was a guarantee, so if anything goes wrong, there is a full refund, and free piercing!

He told me that when he put the clamp on, that I may feel a little pressure, I did of course, but it was numbing my ear. Next thing I knew my friend was holding her ears, so she did not hear the crunch and I just lay there awaiting the needle. Next thing I knew, it was over. So soon you ask? Well, I could not feel it! I felt something hot in my ear, but that was it! It did not hurt one little bit. My ear was kind of hot though, but as soon as he put the hoop in, it felt so good. He asked if i would like to see it, it looked wonderful! I got up, asked my friend what she thought of it, and of course she wanted it done too. I thanked him, he gave me his card and asked me to call if I had questions or problems, and we were off.

All in all, it was by far worth it. So if you are thinking about getting your rook pierced I Recommend it! I have 12 ear piercings total ( Three on the bottom, 3 in my right cartilage, and 2 in my left, and my 12 is my rook.) To me, my rook hurt less than my cartilage. The next day it was a little sore, but within two days I was able to sleep on it. Some advice for you though, do not answer the phone with the ear you have pierced! Now that does hurt! Cleaning is very easy, a Q-tip with some anti-bacterial soap worked for me, although your piercer may give you cleaning solution. It is also good to rotate the earring when you can, but don't expect to the first couple of days.

So if you plan to get a rook piercing, go for it! It is worth it, you get attention, and get to type your story! I hope I was of some help. Another tip for you: of all the rook piercing stories you read, not many said it hurt, that is what convinced me!
