While waiting for a friend to get this stupid tattoo with her then boyfriends name in it, I began looking at the piercing portfolio. I had originally began with 12G circular barbells in each ear and slowly gotten up to 8 and was now back to 10. I have always been a little flighty, usually acting on whatever it is that peaks my interest and considering the consequences later. At the age of 21, I was on my second tattoo, of which my father just loved.

In the midst of holding her hand and attempting to be supportive, I found my next body modification conquest! I came across this picture of a boy that had done a spiral piercing in his left lobe. I loved the way it looked! For those of you who are not familiar with a spiral, imagine a the binding of a spiral notebook, just in your ear. Beth wasn't in, so I made an appointment to see her the next day. We both decided that 3 loops would work well in my ears, as I didn't want to begin getting into my cartliage. Three is also apropriate for me, as I am an only child, so it is just me, my mom, and my dad. It took three days for the earrings to come in. I began with my right side. I got them done one at a time, because I sleep on my sides, and from what Beth said, there was usually alot of bruising associated with this piercing. Was she ever right!

The piercing itself took only about 10 minutes. The prep was much longer. Each whole had to be marked and measured so that the hole would correspond to the curve of the spiral. This type of piercing is also different in the sense that the needles must be at a 45 degree angle. She began with the first hole, which was closest to my jaw. The next two followed and I felt a sudden rush. The first needle hurt like hell, but what is the old saying? If your arm hurts, hit you leg? By the time all three needles were in my entire ear had that lovely burning sensation. She then began the task of threading the earring through and removing each needle. I am a bleeder, so I had blood running down my neck by the time she was done. It was nothing a little gauze wouldn't take care of.

When I jumped off the table to look at it, I was a little dizzy, but quickly got my bearings. I was very happy with the way it looked. I had chosen a 14g and 1/4" diameter. They bearly hung below my earlobe and the spacing was perfect.

The next morning, my head felt like shit. My ear wasn't finished bleeding, in fact it bleed for three more days and I had developed this lovely bruise that covered my earlobe and down the back of my neck. Being a side sleeper, it took me about a week to get used to being sore, not so much from the piercing, just the bruise. I went back in three weeks to get the other side done.

My parents were not thirlled, but were supportive. I think the thing that freaked them out the most was when I asked for their help with the cleaning. Because I have acrylic nails, removing the balls is sometimes tough. It also brought my mother and I closer, as my old 10G circular barbells, went into her ears. She is such a trooper. I even convinced her to get matching tattoo's with me and if you can believe it, they are on our neck!

So here I am a year later, and I love them! They are so unique and I have never seen anyone else with a piercing like these. They have healed nicely for the most part. In fact the only problem I have is when I clean my jewelery. They close very quickly, so I can not leave them out for very long. I highly recommend this type of piercing, as it is one of the few that is not at all trendy. Body modification should be about self expression and these are the perfect piercings for those who want something that is rarely seen!

My next conquest is to get a vertical hood. After doing much research, and with the help of my boyfriend (how is extensivly pierced) I feel that I have the apropriate anatomy for a vert hood. Sexually, I think it will help highten my sex life and of course, I think it will be a beautiful addition to my snatch. I also like the idea of having a piercing that no one knows is there. What can I say, it's just the exhibitionist in me! I suppose that will be my next post.
