Well, I guess I will start with when I decided to pierce my ear lobes. I was at school and it was a Friday. I was pretty bored, in my Hebrew Scriptures class, which is the worst. So i was thinking of what I was going to do over the weekend, and for some reason I had the urge to pierce my ears. Both of my ears were already pierced but I wanted to get a second one. So I was happy that I actually was planning to do something over the weekend.

I came home and I chose some jewelry and a safety pin and I put some sterilizer in a cup and put the jewelry and safety pin in there. Then I did whatever I did and then went to bed. I was planning on piercing my ears in the morning. But when I woke up my mom told me that I had to go to my grandma's house. I didn't know how it would work out piercing my ears or how long it would take so I just pushed it aside and planned on doing it that night. So I went to my Grandma's and did whatever, visited with her, and stuff.

When I got home I went online and talked for a really long time with one of my good friends Chris. We talked until like 2:00 a.m. and that's when I remembered what I had been planning to do. So I signed offline and went upstairs. I took a marker and drew two little dots on each ear where I wanted to pierce it. Then, I put some ear cleaner stuff on my ears and got a cup of ice. I took two pieces of the ice and put them each on my ear, one on the front side and one on the back. I was surprised that it was actually numbing my ear. Then, I took the safety pin and just put it in. I didn't feel a thing. Ice REALLY does work. That surprised me SO much. When I felt the tip of the safety pin come out the other end I was like "Wait...but I didn't feel anything! How could it be over already?" I knew that getting your ears pierced doesn't hurt because I've had it done twice before (let it close up once, then got it re-done), but I was still surprised. I made the mistake o f taking the safety pin out right away. I think that if you do that it like closes up partly, because I tried to put the earring in and it wouldn't go all the way. I was frustrated because it had seemed so easy before. So I put some more ice on and I basically re-pierced it. It hurt a little bit more that time. I left the safety pin inside my ear for about five minutes. While it was in there I put some cleaning stuff on it and some more ice. I think putting the cleaner on it over and over again throughout the process is what kept it from getting infected. After five minutes I took it out and put in an earring. I was so happy that I actually got the earring in that time. So I put the back of the earring in and decided to take a break and do the other ear later.

I came downstairs and told just about every person that was online that I had pierced my ear. I was so excited because usually I wouldn't be the kind of person to do that. So I talked to some people for a while and then I realized that it was about 4:00 a.m. so I decided to go to bed. I planned on piercing the other ear the next morning. So as soon as I woke up the next day I went to get ice. Once I had the ice I went into the bathroom and started numbing my other ear. I put some cleaner on it and then took the safety pin out of the sterilizer. Then, I pierced my ear with the safety pin. Apparently, I did not learn from my mistake the previous night. I took the safety pin out right away and tried to get an earring in. It did not go in and I was again frustrated. So I repeated the process, numbing my ear, cleaning my ear, and putting the safety pin in. This time I left it in for about five minutes. Then, I took the safety pin out and put an earring in. I was ag ain, extremely happy that it worked. Then I cleaned it again and cleaned my other ear as well.

For the next week I made a great effort of cleaning it every day, and hiding that I had done it from my parents. They had told me that I could have it done but they never said that I could do it myself. But then again they never told me that I couldn't. For a whole week I left my hair down over my ears and today is the first day I put it up. My mom hasn't noticed yet. I doubt they'll care much but they might. I don't really know. I'm going to the mall today and I'm planning on buying some jewelry. Now that I know that I am actually capable of piercing myself I'm going to pierce my ear lobes one more time. I hope it works out as well as the last one did.

To those of you looking for advice and insight on piercing your ear lobes. I'll just tell you that you need to leave the needle in a little while before taking it out. You also need to continuously clean it all the way throughout the process. Also, if you want a completely pain-free way to pierce them, just put ice on the front and back of your ear lobe for about one minute and then put the needle in. Believe me, you feel nothing at all. That's basically it. I know that piercing your lobes isn't that big of a deal but considering the fact that I'm only 14 and my parents sort of rule over what I do, its a big deal to me. It's been about a week and I haven't faced any problems with it yet. I clean it regularly and hopefully it won't get infected.
