Ok, so here's how the story goes...
At A Glance Author Hannae Contact Hannae@bme.anon When A week ago Studio Stege Location Singapore I had just got my helix pierced a month ago and wanted a new piercing desperately, a proper one, not another lobe or cartilage. I wanted to be original, something no one in my school had and would never think of getting. I was considering getting either my Tragus or Rook pierced. I could not decide which. After seeing many people around and about town with a pierced Tragus, I decided to go for the rook.
So, now the hard part, to convince my mum! She hates for me to get piercings because she thinks that it looks bad and I'm losing vital acupuncture points for vanity or something along the lines. I begged and begged and begged and then she blew up saying that this was my last hole until I'm 18 and that she has no more money for piercings. (I'm 14 now...I got a long wait to go but the day I turn 18, it's off to the piercing studio!). I off course said "yeah, yeah, whatever', thinking that I should be able to convince her in a couple of years time to allow for another piercing.
So...the day. Monday 5th April 2004, during my Easter break may I add? I went to "Stege" with two of my friends. I looked at the jewellery for a bit and asked the piercer how much it would be, how much would it hurt etc. I then chose my curved barbell, a glow in the dark one, and paid. He then got me to fill out a form and sprayed the anesthetics on my ear. After, he put on his gloves and started to prepare the equipment. Everything was sterilized and clean so I was not concerned. I waited and looked around, nervous as I could be. I was thinking about leaving but my friends would not let me go, as they knew how much I wanted it.
Then he came, and told me to sit on a stool. Seeing the lighting was not brilliant he got me to go into the little room that was currently being used by this woman who was getting a tattoo. I had to beg him to let one of my friends in. Eventually he gave in.
So he got me to sit on the stool again, which I did with fear, and he examined my ear. He then proceeded to get the needle. I jumped off my stool when I saw the size of it. I was so nervous. The tattoo artist told me I was a brave girl and that it would only hurt 10%. In my head I was going "I ain't brave, I ain't brave, it's going to hurt loads, what am I doing here???' I sat down again, cursing quietly, and moved away again when he brought the needle close to me! This happened like 20 times, but the piercer was patient. All this time, my friend who was still outside kept asking the friend with me "Is it done yet, is it happening now?"
Finally I got the guts to sit down. He came closer with the needle and I was like ' oh darn' when he started bringing the needle down. I was squeezing my friend's arm so much. (I think she suffered more pain then I did!)
The needle entered my skin. I heard a noise (but did not realize until after that was the "pop" that everyone always talks about!) The pain came and I loosened my grip on my friends arm. I like the pain. I do not know why, it gets my adrenaline going for some reason (all my friends think I'm weird). It was not so painful that I was crying but it was a load of pressure as he was fighting to get the needle through. It took like half a minute to get the needle through. Then he moved to get the barbell, I was shocked that I had a needle through my ear, a really thick one at that! The piercer took the needle out and replaced it with the barbell. It did not hurt at all. I had not said a word while he was piercing. He passed me a mirror and I stared at my new rook. I still could not believe I got it done!
At last I left the room with a big smile on my face and showed my friend. I saw that there were some customers looking at the barbells and was proudly showing off my new rook.
I was given the aftercare instructions and called my mum telling her I got it done. That night I sent a photo to my dad (traveling), he replied saying it was impressive. It did not hurt that night if I lay on it, which was good. All my friends at school were like " Ouch, did that hurt?' " Your crazy', "Oh my god, that looks so cool' etc. I'm so happy and have been cleaning it everyday. It is healing well and I can't wait to get my next piercing!!! Anyone who is considering getting it done, I suggest you do so. Any pain or discomfort you may feel, it is all worth it!
