I have had my first holes in my ears since I was eight months old. My mother had them done when I was a baby because that was the popular thing to go to babies then, I guess. My second and third holes were my option. When I got the second holes, I was in the mall. I just decided that I wanted a second hole in both of my ears. Well I was only about 14 or 15 years old, so obviously I didn't know anything about ear piercing or piercing in general. I just knew that I wanted my ears pierced.....right then.

No references, no knowledge of the person piercing or anything. We just paid our nineteen ninety five and picked out the earrings that I wanted and waited our turn. Well, the lady finally told me that I could get into the chair for her to pierce my ears. So, I crawl into the chair, excited, nervous, and about to change my life forever.
The lady asked me if I wanted a teddy bear to hold while she pierced my ears. I told her "Sure thing." So, I am handed the teddy bear and bracing for the pain. She marks my ears with my first earrings still in to make sure the placement is correct. Then, she removes my first earrings so that they don't get into the way when she pierces my second hole.
Then she brings out the classic ear piercing gun. Yes, the dreaded gun. Knowing now what I know about the ear piercing gun, I just cringe when I think about it now. I don't even want to think about the possibilities of diseases that I could have gotten from that mall ear piercing gun. So, she lines up the gun with the markings that she made on my ear. The next thing I know there is the loudest click that I have ever heard. I mean, it's like a cannon going off. So, that was one ear down and one ear to go, right? WRONG. She didn't click it all the way, so when she released the trigger, the earring came back and somehow the back fell onto the floor! So, I have a half hole, my ear is pouring blood, and she wants to try again!
After she got the bleeding to a minimum, she reloaded the now bloody gun and pierced my ear again. I had to go back through the whole click sensation again. It was very painful to say the least. Well, that was one ear. She still had yet to do the second ear. When she moved on to the next ear, my mom told her she had one chance and one chance only to get the second hole through my ear. She did much better on the second hole getting it in in only one try. She cleaned up my still bleeding other ear and allowed me to put my other earrings back in. Needless to say, I didn't feel too much like shopping anymore that afternoon.
My third holes, my mother would not allow till I was 18 years old. I knew that I wanted them, but I also knew to research where to get them done and that the ear piercing gun was not what to get them pierced with. I looked on many different internet sites to find information about piercing, of course bme was the most informative of all the sites that I looked at. I learned that I needed to have it pierced by a professional in a piercing shop, not a little store in the mall.
So, after much research and debate I decided on a little piercing shop about thirty miles from my home. I got up the cash to have them pierced. I go into the little shop, am amazed at all the tattoo flash on the walls, and the big tattooed pierced fellow behind the counter sneering at me. But, once I asked about getting my third holes, he was more than helpful.
I was sat down into the piercing chair, much the same way that I was in the mall, with the exception that this place smelled clean, and there was no one shopping right beside where I was getting my ears pierced. The piercing guy marked the place on my ear in relation to my other two existing holes. Once the placement was chosen, he placed the clamp on my ear. Not exactly comfortable, but not too painful either, and besides I had read over and over that the clamp was the worst part. So, I figured that I pretty much had this under control. Well, I kept waiting for him to pierce it, and then all of the sudden he removed the clamp. I was like "What's wrong?" He said, "That one's done." Well GREAT! It didn't hurt at all! I never felt the needle or the jewelry go through. The other ear pretty much went the same way, and I am tickled pink that they look so great still today! If you are thinking of piercing your ears, do your research and GO FOR IT!
