I've wanted a rook piercing ever since my friend showed me the pictures here on BME. I was supposed to get it pierced in January with my friend providing support, but he flaked out on me so I didn't get it. I finally decided I wanted to get it forreals after a very stressful week, and a weekend while my parents were conveniently away. My friend promised to come with me this time but decided not to get anything pierced. I was nervous about it and wanted to back out, but didn't want to disappoint my friend.

Studio Nomad's Location San Francisco Afterschool we headed to Nomad's after convincing another friend to accompany us. Nomad's is this great piercing place in the city that almost everybody goes to in order to get their piercings. My friends have gone there to get industrials, belly, labret, and tongue piercings. They definitely have a good reputation there. What surprised me about Nomad's is it's size. It was smaller than I expected it to be, but a great place nonetheless. They've got a good selection of jewelery and they do just about every piercing known of.
I was freaking out at this point about getting it pierced but again I didn't want to disappoint my friend, and I would've felt bad making him drive all the way down there for nothing. On the way to Nomad's I was really nervous and scared. My stomach felt weak, my heart was racing. We got inside and there was nobody there except for the worker. I believe his name is Chris, but I'm not sure. He's got some stretching in his lobes and his cartilage, as well as a bridge and labret piercing. Told him I wanted to get my rook pierced, so he asked if I was 18. I'm not, but I can pass for 18 or over so I just said I was. I initialed the release form and all that stuff while he cleaned everything. I was done and he told me to go into the piercing area and lie down on my right side since I wanted the piercing on the left. He cleaned my ear, etc. and then it was time to get pierced. I felt the needle go through my ear and all of a sudden felt warm. It was obviously bleeding a lot but I didn't realize it until later-everybody chose to not tell me how badly it was bleeding. It wasn't painful at all-the only thing that was painful was when the ball was being screwed on because my rook is kind of small. I wisely chose the smaller of the two curved barbells-with small blue stones in the balls. I paid for my piercing and went home very happy.
Later that night, I couldn't wait to show all of my friends. They all kept saying how brave I must've been because they thought it hurt a lot and wouldn't believe me when I said it didn't. The only downside was that there was dried blood around it so it didn't look that pretty. That problem was solved that evening after I cleaned it with Bactine, Dial soap, and did a salt water soak. Today it's been a month and it's perfectly healed. I actually was able to sleep on my left side that night with no pain. I cleaned it regulary, doing the salt soak for a week. One bad thing is that the other day, I realized that the small gemstone from the bottom part of the earring somehow fell out. It's okay though, that part is kind of hidden anyways. This piercing now brings my total up to 6-2 lobe piercings in each ear, a cartilage piercing on my right, and my rook on the left. Another surprising thing is that my parents still haven't seen it yet despite my hair being tied up. =D They freaked out when I came home with a cartilage piercing because they told me I couldn't get it, but that's what my brother got me for my birthday so I didn't get into trouble. The fact that my parents would get mad added to my hesitation but I really wanted to get it pierced. Besides, it's my money and my ear, so I'll do whatever I want to it. They can't make me take it out...plus I'm not exactly sure how to take it out, hahaha.
I reccomend the rook piercing to anyone who wants something different. I don't know anybody else who has it so for me that was more incentive to get it. It really isn't painful at all and I was able to sleep on it that night even though I didn't by choice. It's a great piercing to have, so don't be afraid!!!! Like they say-no pain, no gain. Enjoy your piercing!!!!
