I had always wanted to get my Tragus pierced but always chikened out when it came time. I had had a few bad experiences in regards to piercings in the past. I talked to a few people I knew and heard their stories of pain and infection realated to this piercing. Then one day, I decided to be a little ballsy and get it done. So, I skipped my college classes one morning and me and my friend went to the piercing shop. I was a little worried about infection because I had once had my navel done and it grew out, pushing the hoop right through the skin. My piercer reassured me that this rarely happens in cases of ear piercings so I was set.
At A Glance Author anonymous Contact anonymous@bme.anon When A year ago Studio aquarius Location Brooks Alberta I went to the shop in the town I was living in, the only one there at the time. I knew that the piercer was good as she had done a few of my classmates piercings, and her shop was always really clean. She had health records hanging within sight and the place smelled fresh. I had visited the shop before to ask all of my questions in regards to the tragus and thought that I wouldn't have any issues with the piercer at all, which was the case. One other thing I liked about this spot was that I had any choice in jewlery I wanted, instead of being stuck with just a plain hoop.
I picked out my jewlery, a red beaded bar bell, signed my papers, and then nervously proceeded into the piecing room. She told me to lay on the table as she got all her equipment ready. She clamped my ear and slid the needle through. No big deal at all, infact the clamp was probebly the worst part until she attempted to put the jewlery in. She tried to get the bar bell in for 10 minutes, then switched to a hoop. She kept having to remove these partially through jewels and my ear was gettin sore/ I sat up periodically- big mistake. My ear began to bleed and I felt kind of dissy to. Anyways, after about 3 pieces of jewlery, it was done. My ear hurt so bad and bled a lot but all in all the experience wasn't too bad. I think my friend that came wit me had a harder time with the whole thing then I actually did. She constantly asked if I was okay or if I needed a hand to hold (yeah right). I was okay. Once it was done, I sat up again, a little slower then last time, and sat there for a minute while I got my aftercare instructions. I couldn't hear out of that ear at all and part of me wondered if maybe I had developed the low occuring deafness that may subsequentially follow this piercing. I went home, still not hearing, and cleaned out my ear, old blood everywhere! Oh well.
Now that it is done and over with, I only really had one bad experience following my piercing. My ear was so swollen for what seemed to be months, I used anti bacterial soap often- maybe that was the problem- and polysporin ointment twice a day. I kept the ear free of hairspray and other junk like that. My tragus leaked pus like gunk for a long time too- days it seemed. The pain eventually subsided, as did the infection . The swelling remained for quite a long time. It is just recently that my tragus regained its normal shape and size. And, a year or so after the fact, I would go through it all over again without any hesitation. I love my piercing now and looking back, the pain I experienced really wasn't all that bad- kind of enjoyable. (as 'sick' as that may sound)It still gets a little tender at times but nothing like before.
It is my recomendation that anyone out there who is concidering gettiong this piercing done do so. It is a fun piercing that really looks good on anyone as far as I am concerned. The only solid advice I have is to expect a few days with a slightly sore ear. And, if you have a low pain tolerance, have fun!!! All in all, the experience was good, I would do it again in a heartbeat. Because of my ablity to overcome my unecessary insecurities as far as tragus piercings went, I am totally addicted to the feeling of a needle entering my flesh. I have gotten 3 more piercings since then and a tattoo as well. Just be prepared to be addicted, your first piercing almost never is your last. Most importantly, check into your piercing artists- cheaper isn't always better in the long run and a display of one or two certicates on the wall is always comforting too! Lastly, keep it clean but not over clean as sometimes there is such a thing as too clean!!!
