I've always had a thing about loving the way a piercing looks but never having the guts to go and get it done but I've had my conch piercing since January now and im so glad my friend didn't let me chicken out.

I'd only seen one person with a conch piercing before but had always thought it looked pretty cute and seeing pictures on here just made me like it even more so my mind was set on having it done. I showed the pictures to a friend who was staying with me and we read through other peoples experiences and looked through other ear piercings. By the end of it my friend had decided to get her rook pierced so we decided we would both go ahead and get our chosen piercings done.
I've had piercings before, common ones-four ear lobes and top and bottom navel and when I was younger and stupid(er) pierced the top cartilage bit of my ear (not a good idea) but it didn't stop me being shit scared about this one!
Me and my friend had agreed that I would get my piercing 1st or I'd probably chicken out if she came out in pain! So we went into town and went for it! When we got to Europierce nerves were definately beginning to show. There was a lady and a younger lad there. They took us downstairs to the piercing studio and we talked about what piercings we wanted done.
Now I'd like to say, yeh I was brave and went for it but no.I chickened out. My friend went ahead and got her rook done like she was just going to have her hair cut or something! After watching her get that done I was thinking that I would never forgive myself if I went home without getting my piercing so after a lot of 'I dunno' and 'oh my god I cant believe im doing this'ing I went ahead and signed the forms.
The lady who did my friends piercing (and was about to do mine) was really nice and didn't make me feel stupid for being such a whimp. So I lay down, holding my mates hand while the piercer did her thing with the glove changing, marking etc. So there she was, hovering next to my ear with me thinking 'whens it gonna happen' when I felt MY hand being squeezed! My friend had seen the needle about to go in and had instinctively squeezed my hand-accidentally making me know when the needle was about to go in. Well, I wont lie, it did hurt, and I did hear the crunch that some people talk about. The most painful bit was when she was attatching the balls as there were two to put on. The shop uses some plastic material (PTFE?) that is flexible so is supposed to be better for healing. They used the same gauge as a regular navel piercing but the material they used can be trimmed so it is quite long. I had never heard of many non-metal materials being used for piercings before then but it is definately a good idea as it means that jewelry can be shortened once any swelling has gone down.
I was so happy I had got it done though. I made sure I didn't sleep on it that night and cleaned it the next morning. I made sure my hands were washed and used a slight amount of sea salt with warm water as directed in the aftercare leaflett the piercer gave me. It was very difficult at first, especially cleaning where the jewelry came out of the back of my ear as i couldn't see it properly and any slight movement of my ear hurt. Despite that me and my friend did both manage to go into town and to a club the following night without any major injuries (apart from her smacking me round the ear when dancing-ow).
In the first few days after getting it done i did have a bit of pain with my ear, mainly through accidentally knocking it or turning over in my sleep. I had to make sure I had my hair tied back so it didn't get caught around the bit coming out of the back of my ear.As for washing my hair, now that wasn't easily done as I had to be really careful not to get any shampoo over my ear.
It has now being over a month since I had my conch pierced and it is doing fine. I am cleaning it once every few days, as it doesn't seem to need any more. I'm so glad I got it done. It looks well cute and I'm looking foreward to getting some new jewelry to put in it when its healed. If anyone want to know more about my experience, or has just had a great piercing they think I may want to know about just e-mail me. Oh yeh, my friends rook it doing fine and I have her to thank for making me go ahead with mine, so thank you!
